About The Position

The Middle School Choir Teacher is responsible for planning and conducting 6th, 7th, and 8th grade independent choirs, assisting with the high school choir a couple of times per week, and teaching a beginning level group piano class for high school students. The role involves spiritual leadership in the classroom by modeling prayer and love toward students in a Christ-like manner. The teacher will effectively plan and execute lessons with appropriate strategies for student mastery of content, recognizing that students learn differently and implementing motivating and engaging strategies to meet the needs of all learners. This teaching method aims to contribute to students’ development as mature, able, and responsible Christian individuals. The teacher will also manage and monitor student learning in an encouraging classroom environment that allows for students to grow in depth of knowledge. Engagement in professional development trainings and collaborative learning opportunities is expected for professional growth and enhancement of teaching craft.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Current state teaching certificate/license.
  • Completed at least 24 semester hours in subject taught for “major part of the day”.
  • Completed at least 12 semester hours in subject taught for “less than major part of the day”.
  • Completed at least 12 hours in professional education coursework.
  • Meet certification guidelines required to obtain and maintain active ACSI teacher certification throughout employment.
  • Possess characteristics that reflect a strong clear Christian testimony with a mature and godly spirit.
  • Possess characteristics that reflect a daily example of the highest Christian virtue both in and out of school.
  • Commitment to faithful attendance and support of a church whose beliefs are in agreement with the Statement of Faith for Christian Academy School System.
  • Agreement and belief that the Bible is the final authority concerning truth, morality, and the proper conduct of mankind.

Responsibilities

  • Lead students in daily prayer and devotions.
  • Model a consistent relationship with Jesus Christ.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of content and pedagogy.
  • Design lessons with clear, focused, and measurable instructional objectives.
  • Integrate technology to enhance learning and mastery of content.
  • Demonstrate Biblical integration and Christian worldview in instruction.
  • Establish learning expectations with well-defined openings.
  • Guide students to apply learning to real-world applications.
  • Implement a variety of strategies to introduce, explain, and restate subject matter concepts.
  • Select a variety of instructional aids, methods, and materials for creative teaching.
  • Employ a variety of questioning techniques that enhance critical thinking.
  • Intentionally plan pre-assessments, formative, and summative assessments aligned to learning objectives.
  • Plan for student feedback through self-assessment.
  • Identify students in need of additional or different instruction and determine effective instructional modifications.
  • Use assessment data to plan instruction.
  • Create a learning environment promoting positive social interaction, active engagement, and self-motivation.
  • Create an environment of respect and rapport through reinforcement and praise.
  • Encourage students to accept God and grow in their faith.
  • Provide opportunities for students to lead prayer and devotions.
  • Provide opportunities for students to develop a Christian mind and lifestyle.
  • Manage student behavior by implementing classroom rules, routines, and procedures.
  • Organize physical space to be attractive, well-ordered, and conducive to learning.
  • Communicate in a positive, clear manner with accurate grammar and spelling.
  • Represent the school in a favorable and professional manner.
  • Maintain timely and accurate student records/grades in RenWeb and submit weekly lesson plans.
  • Communicate with families about students’ progress on a regular basis.
  • Respond to family/student concerns in a timely and appropriate manner.
  • Maintain a teachable spirit and assume responsibility for actions.
  • Maintain confidentiality and support school success as a team effort.
  • Seek out opportunities for professional development and participate to enhance content knowledge and pedagogical skill.
  • Create a professional growth plan demonstrating progress in content areas and instructional methods.
