About The Position

KIPP Memphis is seeking an inspiring Middle School Choir Teacher who is responsible for teaching music education to students and assists the staff of the school in the improvement and appreciation of music instruction. Helps students grow in their enjoyment, appreciation, and performance of music through a variety of planned music experiences which include singing, moving to music, playing of instruments and listening and performs other duties directly related to this job description. Reporting to the School Leader (Principal), the Choir Teacher is responsible for delivering effective, high-quality, rigorous instruction in language and cultural immersion. Teachers will perform additional duties, as necessary, to ensure that all students learn.

Requirements

  • State licensure and certification (Required)
  • Commitment to working with underserved students (Required)
  • Commitment to the design and development of the school (Required)
  • Bachelor’s Degree (Required)

Nice To Haves

  • At least two years of teaching experience (Preferred)
  • Master’s in Education / Teaching / Content area (Preferred)
  • Experience/strength in content area/Highly Qualified status (Preferred)
  • Experience teaching in an urban school (Preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Teaches choir fundamentals to music, including harmony, appreciation, history, and ensemble.
  • Utilizes repertoire of all types of music literature, including traditional and contemporary that are appropriate for the ages and skill levels of students.
  • Provides opportunities for music ensembles including choir & musicals.
  • Differentiate music curriculum to meet the needs of the individual student and the student body.
  • Plans a balanced music program, and organizes daily class time so that preparation, rehearsal and instruction can be accomplished within the allotted time.
  • Develops and refines music curriculum based on standards of creating, performing, and responding.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment during practice, group rehearsals, and music performances.
  • Evaluates each student’s musical growth and contribution to the performance of the group that allows everyone to contribute.
  • Maintains care/responsibility for school-owned music, musical instruments, and equipment to prevent loss or abuse.
  • Implement, by instruction and action, the region’s philosophy of education, the KIPP Memphis curriculum, and instructional goals and objectives
  • Maintain professional relationships with colleagues
  • Actively engage in all professional development opportunities
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned
