About The Position

The Middle School Catechist leads weekly religious education classes, prepares students for sacraments, and helps them grow in knowledge and love of God and the Catholic Church. This role is vital in fulfilling the parish’s mission to educate and evangelize children in partnership with their families.

Requirements

  • Practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church.
  • Desire and commitment to share the Catholic faith with children.
  • Knowledge of Catholic teachings and sacraments; willingness to learn and grow in the role.
  • Patience, enthusiasm, and ability to relate well to children and parents.
  • Completion of parish/diocesan safe environment training and background check (required).

Nice To Haves

  • Previous teaching or ministry experience is helpful but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Teach assigned class (typically weekly sessions, grades 6–8) using the approved Edge religious education curriculum.
  • Integrate Scripture, prayer, Catholic doctrine, and Church tradition into each lesson.
  • Prepare students for sacraments (e.g., Confirmation) as applicable.
  • Maintain a safe, respectful, and faith-filled classroom environment.
  • Collaborate with the Youth Minister, Director of Religious Education and other catechists.
  • Communicate regularly with parents about student progress and parish faith formation events.
  • Attend catechist training sessions, meetings, and retreats as required.
  • Set an example of active faith and Catholic values in word and action.
