About The Position

Reed City Middle School is seeking a dedicated and passionate individual to serve as the Middle School Boys Basketball Coach for the upcoming season. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in basketball, a commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive team environment, and the ability to inspire young athletes. This seasonal position will focus on developing players' skills, promoting teamwork, and encouraging sportsmanship while ensuring a fun and engaging experience for all participants.

Requirements

Previous coaching experience, preferably at the middle school level or higher, with a strong understanding of basketball fundamentals.
Knowledge of the rules and regulations of basketball as well as best practices in coaching and player development.
Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with players, parents, and staff.
Ability to motivate and inspire young athletes to achieve their best both on and off the court.
Availability for practices and games, typically in the afternoons and evenings, as well as some weekends.
A background check will be required prior to employment.
A passion for youth sports and a commitment to the development of student-athletes in a positive environment.

Nice To Haves

First Aid and CPR certification preferred or willingness to obtain prior to the start of the season.

Responsibilities

Plan and conduct daily basketball practices, focusing on skill development, teamwork, and game strategies.
Organize and oversee all aspects of the middle school boys basketball program, including practices, games, and tournaments.
Develop and implement training programs that cater to the varying skill levels of student-athletes.
Foster a positive team culture that emphasizes respect, sportsmanship, and personal growth.
Communicate effectively with players, parents, and school administration regarding schedules, expectations, and team progress.
Monitor the academic performance and behavior of student-athletes to ensure they uphold school standards.
Collaborate with other coaches and staff to promote athletic programs and school spirit.
Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants during practices and games.
Attend all scheduled games and coaching meetings, and provide feedback to players for continuous improvement.
Maintain equipment and facilities, ensuring they are safe and in good working condition.
