About The Position

The Avery Coonley School is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Middle School Boys’ Volleyball Coach for its interscholastic athletics program. This is a part-time, two-month stipend position. The season runs from Mid-October to mid-December, with practices and games held Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, and the possibility of one Wednesday during playoff week. Coaches in The Avery Coonley School Athletic Department work collaboratively with their coaching partners to design and implement engaging, challenging, and fun practices. The coaching and game-management philosophy centers on the development of each athlete rather than a primary focus on winning. Coaches are expected to create an environment in which athletes can develop their basketball skills, build confidence, learn to work with others, and enjoy the experience of competing. Coaches are also expected to honor the game by demonstrating respect for the rules, officials, opponents, teammates, and spectators and by modeling the sportsmanship and character we want our athletes to develop.

• Strong youth coaching skills
• Detail-oriented and highly organized
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Commitment to creating a positive, inclusive, and development-focused experience for all athletes

Nice To Haves

• High school or college basketball playing experience preferred
• Previous basketball coaching experience preferred
• Coaching certification or license at any level preferred
