About The Position

The Nueva School is seeking a Middle School Associate Teacher to join their Innovative Teacher Program (ITP). This two-year, full-time position involves collaborating with a mentor teacher to co-teach three fifth-grade Humanities classes and lead one fifth-grade Humanities class. The role is ideal for individuals with a strong interest and expertise in Humanities and a passion for working with middle school students (fifth to eighth grade). The program provides teaching experience, mentorship, and professional development, including weekly workshops on various pedagogical topics and a focus on classroom management, differentiation, and lesson design. The second year involves intensive reflection, observation, and support for future career or graduate school applications. The position begins in early July 2026 and concludes at the end of the 2026-27 school year.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in History or a related field.
  • Strong interest and desire to work with middle school students.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Prior experience working with youth.
  • Commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in classroom culture and curriculum.
  • Demonstrated strengths in organization, time management, and professionalism.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with a mentor teacher to co-teach three fifth-grade Humanities classes.
  • Lead one fifth-grade Humanities class independently.
  • Co-run an advisory group.
  • Meet one-on-one with students.
  • Collaborate with mentor teacher on curriculum development and lesson planning.
  • Participate in student support meetings with learning specialists, counselors, and administrators.
  • Chaperone field trips and one annual week-long trip.
  • Plan and facilitate special classes or workshops on Fridays.
  • Engage in the day-to-day life of the school.
