About The Position

The Huron Valley Schools is seeking an energetic, effective and positive Assistant Principal who is responsible for assisting the school principal in the leadership, coordination, supervision, and management of the school program and operation.

Requirements

  • Must have competent written and oral communication skills.
  • Must hold a Master's Degree from an institution recognized as qualified to grant such a degree and must possess or be eligible for the appropriate administrative certification, as required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of professional service.
  • Must be an implementer of the administration's directives and a decision maker.
  • Must be a successful, collaborative decision-maker.
  • Evidence of ability to provide instructional leadership through: Knowledge and application of research on school and teacher effectiveness
  • Understanding of human growth and development and learning theory
  • Evidence of monitoring student learning to improve instruction
  • Evidence of sincere interest in secondary curriculum and instruction practices.
  • Evidence of active participation and understanding of data driven instruction.
  • Excellent communication, group leadership and team management skills.
  • Demonstrated interest and experience with the middle school program.
  • Ability to speak and write effectively.
  • Ability to apply mathematical concepts to practical situations.
  • Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral format and deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Nice To Haves

  • Valid teaching certificate in the State of Michigan preferred.
  • (Eighteen (18) SCECHs or six (6) semester hours in the last five years).

Responsibilities

  • Reports directly to the Muir MS Principal and provides administrative support to the Teaching, Learning & Technology department.
  • Assists in the responsibility for school and students.
  • Assists in the responsibility for developing and implementing the school improvement process within the framework of the district plan.
  • Administer a program of student support, discipline and supervision, establishing a culture of high expectations for both academics and behavior.
  • Assists in leadership for facilitating continuous program development within the building unit consistent with the district mission statement, student profile, and core curriculum.
  • Lead in the development, supervision, and evaluation of instructional and staff development programs.
  • Closely monitor teaching practices to ensure rigor and best practice is occurring in all classrooms.
  • Use a systematic program of visitation, evaluation, and conferencing to provide clear and consistent direction for all staff.
  • Design opportunities to empower students, staff, and parents to be integrally involved in all aspects of the school's culture and climate.
  • Promote and support staff initiative, innovation, and self-improvement.
  • Be flexible in implementing and managing change.
  • Commit to high visibility and daily communication with all stakeholders using multiple forms of communication.
  • Collaborate with staff in implementing and evaluating the instructional program based on student achievement and Michigan accreditation.
  • Analyze and share student data and educational research as the foundational principles of professional learning communities.
  • Assist and implement strategies for increasing student achievement.
  • Provide appropriate and effective intervention for both individual students and groups of students.
  • Assist in the selection, assignment, and orientation of staff.
  • Assist in the preparation of the master schedule consistent with district high school guidelines and which provide students with a full range of curricular offerings.
  • Be well organized and efficient.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Principal
