About The Position

MLA is seeking a Middle School Art Teacher for grades 6-8, working 0.4 FTE (16 hours per week). The role involves instructing and supervising a diverse group of students by establishing a positive, respectful learning environment, providing ample and varied learning opportunities, and promoting high standards of performance for all students regardless of their background and developmental levels. The teacher will deliver engaging, developmentally appropriate instruction aligned with MLA Art Priority Standards/Goals, foster intercultural competence, design and implement standards-aligned assessments, and maintain accurate student records. Effective communication with parents/guardians and collaboration with colleagues are essential. The position requires adherence to Competent and Ethical Performance standards as outlined in Oregon Administrative Rules.

Requirements

Valid Oregon teacher’s license with ART endorsement
OR Charter Registry registered with Teachers Standard Practices Commission
Understanding of human growth and development patterns, learning theory and brain research
Content knowledge in ART
Familiarity with a variety of age appropriate instructional, assessment, and classroom management strategies that reflect current research on best practices
Knowledge of and experience with differentiated instruction
Effective oral and written communication skills
Knowledge of state and federal education laws and of student and staff rights
Ability to exhibit professionalism and effective human relations
Ability to effectively manage and supervise students and their work
Ability to work with other staff members
Standard First Aid certification, or the ability to obtain certification within two months of hire, may be required

Responsibilities

Deliver engaging, developmentally appropriate instruction aligned with MLA Art Priority Standards/Goals.
Instruct students in diverse techniques, facilitate creative expression with differentiation and interactive learning experiences to support diverse learners.

Maintain accurate records of student grades, attendance, and progress using school management systems.
Establish and maintain a safe, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment that encourages active participation and positive risk-taking in language learning.
Build positive relationships with students while implementing school-wide classroom expectations.
Communicate effectively with families regarding student progress, classroom learning, and behavior reports.
Collaborate with colleagues for curriculum planning and supporting school-wide extra-curricular activities.
Participate in staff meetings, professional learning communities, in-service and professional development activities, as required or assigned.
Attend special education meetings or data meetings as requested.
Complete assigned supervision duties before or after school.
Build and sustain positive, culturally responsive relationships with students, families, colleagues, and community partners to support student success.
Demonstrate professional judgment and adaptability; adjust communication and approach to effectively engage diverse stakeholders and achieve positive outcomes.
