About The Position

Areté Education is seeking teachers to provide students with engaging, high-quality clubs during ExpandED day programming. This opportunity, funded by the NYS Extended Learning Time Grant and Office of Community Schools, will serve up to 700 students in both academic and enrichment offerings. Club topics will be determined by the Expanded Day Program Co-Directors based on student interest.

Requirements

  • Regularly appointed licensed teacher with active NYSED certification
  • Demonstrated evidence of effective learning strategies and ability to design real-world applications
  • Demonstrated evidence of positive outcomes on student achievement with diverse populations of students.
  • Evidence of excellent attendance and ability to teach in a blended model
  • Engaging, standards based curriculum proposal that uses backwards design and is aligned to NYS Standards.
  • Previous experience with proposed activity and/or relevant training in research based intervention for reading or math
  • Licensed Teacher in New York State
  • At least three years experience working as an educator or youth worker
  • Mandated Reporter and Foundations in Health and Safety online trainings required (7-hours)
  • Department of Health and Department of Education background clearance
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to traverse classroom and adjust one’s tone and height, by bending or leaning, in order to support program activities

  • Masters’ Degree preferred
  • Graduates of the Laboratory School of Finance and Technology or other graduates of Arete partner schools to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Implement and assume responsibility for all instructional activities as assigned by school supervisors in collaboration with Areté beyond assigned teaching session.
  • Provide and develop curriculum map, unit plans, lesson plans, and assessments aligned to appropriate NYS Standards and anchored in real-world applications.
  • Prepare statistical, attendance, and assessment reports as required within program timelines.
  • Maintain accurate records and communicate with families as needed.
  • Communicate needs and interests with Principal and Areté Staff.
  • Attend Areté HR Orientation, Arete Forums, Monthly Credit Bearing Course Team Meetings, and engage in Coaching with Arete Staff.
  • Ability to work at MS/HS 223 School Site.
