About The Position

SkyView Academy’s Athletic Director provides guidance and leadership to related programs, resulting in safe, efficient and effective learning environments. This role is responsible for managing the athletic and student enrichment sports programs for students in grades 6-12, including direct responsibility and supervision for athletic coaches and club sports on campus. This full-time position will include a standard 40-hour work week, with the daily schedule adjusted to reflect management of multiple evening activities and/or athletic competitions. The Athletic Director works to assess SVA sports adherence to the SVA vision and mission and to set short- and long-term goals for the school. Key areas of responsibility include supporting event planning, student admission, athletics, and school community performance standards.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree or equivalent
  • Minimum two years of appropriate athletic leadership experience, including a minimum of 2 years athletic program management experience

Responsibilities

  • Work with the Upper School Principal, staff, faculty, and coaches to develop a quality athletic 6-12 program.
  • Review the Athletic Handbook and propose revisions annually to the Upper School Principal.
  • Supervise Athletic Assistant and staff and delegate tasks as necessary.
  • Hire, train and communicate regularly with coaches, athletic mentors, and trainers.
  • Oversee both the MS/HS sports programs.
  • Oversee the Athletic pages on the school website.
  • Manage internal updates and events to the SVA Faculty and Staff.
  • Oversee the Athletic and club sports calendar for home and away games.
  • Assist in the responsibility for certification of coaching staff in accordance with CHSAA.
  • Assure that coaches and players adhere to the CHSAA guidelines and the SkyView Academy Athletic and Employee Handbook rules and regulations.
  • Verify that all athletes are academically and medically eligible to compete.
  • Oversee that all athletes have paid required fees.
  • Oversee competitions, secure officials, and develop transportation plans for all away competitions.
  • Provide or assign event managers to supervise home competitions.
  • Plan for awards banquets each year and keep records of all awards/letters issued.
  • Manage home practice and playing facilities.
  • Work closely with staff and SkyView Academy administration to enforce school rules, policies and social contracts, including sportsmanship agreements for athletes and parent spectators.
  • Responsible for the Athletic Department budget.
  • Maintain an accurate inventory of all uniforms and equipment related to all sports.
  • Approve the purchase of all equipment and uniforms and ensure that each varsity coach maintains an accurate inventory of all equipment and materials, and file such inventory with the Upper School Principal and Business Manager at the conclusion of each season.
  • Assume the responsibility for the safety and welfare of students whenever danger is observed during all athletic events (practice, game, etc.).
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Work with the Upper School principals and coaches to develop and continuously improve a quality athletic program.
  • Supervise equipment inventories.
  • Develop and maintain master sports/events calendar that includes all sports and club games, practices and events.
  • Works with coaching staff and transportation provider to schedule all athletics departure times.
  • Manages travel arrangement for overnight accommodations for players, athletic teams (and coaching staff).
  • Verify and approve expense athletic expense requests for payment of officials and other workers in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Evaluate all athletic programs/clubs on an annual basis.
  • Make recommendations for improvement to the Principal.
  • Provide a channel through which students and the community may express their concerns about an athletic program or club.
  • Provide for in-service and training of athletic staff as needed.
  • Supervise Athletic Secretary and all coaches, delegating tasks as appropriate.
  • Manage and update the Athletic pages on the school website.
  • Assist in the responsibility for certification of coaching staff and walk-on coaches in accordance with state guidelines.
  • Assure that coaches and players adhere to the CHSAA guidelines and the School Athletic Handbook rules and regulations.
  • Verify and approve expense athletic expense requests for payment of officials and other workers in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Work with the Operations Manager to provide adequate home practice and playing facilities.
  • Work with the Operations Manager to schedule and maintain facility schedules for home practices and competition, and with the Athletic Secretary for away competitions.
  • Be the school advisor to the Booster Club.
  • Work closely with staff and school administration to enforce school rules, policies and social contracts, including sportsmanship agreements for athletes and parent spectators.
  • Responsible for the oversight of the Athletic Department budget.
  • Approve the purchase all equipment and uniforms and ensure that each varsity coach maintains an accurate inventory of all equipment and materials, and file such inventory with the Executive Director and Business Manager at the conclusion of each season.
  • Work with the Lower and Upper School principals to offer a variety of after-school clubs at varying age levels that align with the mission and vision of the school.
  • Review the Club Handbook and proposed revisions annually.
  • Follow a clear selection process for outside vendors offering club services.
  • Ensure every club has an appropriate adult sponsor.
  • Work with the Operations Manager to schedule facility use for clubs.
  • Communicate club offerings to the parent community.
  • Maintain the activities pages of the school website.
  • Manage club registrations, payments, and budgets.
  • Ensure safety and welfare of students during after-school programming.
  • Build and maintain strong personal relationships with parents, teachers, students and community partners.
  • Ensure new families are well oriented to school expectations and school culture.
  • Work with parents to heighten their involvement in the education of their students.
  • Establish clear and age-appropriate expectations for behavior and disciplinary action.
  • Be involved in the daily life of students through assemblies, recess, lunch and special projects and events.
