About The Position

LJB Engineering is seeking a full-time Mid-Level Design Engineer in Dayton, Ohio. The engineer will develop project designs from preliminary concepts through final design, prepare specifications, cost estimates, and bid packages, and coordinate with clients, project managers, design staff, subcontractors, and client managers. The role supports both design-bid-build and design-build projects, contributes to technical, cost, and schedule decisions, and mentors junior engineers. The position offers the opportunity to work on infrastructure and site design projects with a multidisciplinary team. Salary is $85,000–$140,000, based on experience, certifications, and regional market standards.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license.
• 4–9 years of relevant engineering design experience.
• Engineering design and plan development skills.
• Specifications and cost-estimating skills.
• Client and stakeholder coordination skills.
• Project scheduling and technical decision-making skills.
• Mentorship and team collaboration skills.
• Ability to support design-bid-build and design-build projects.
• Can-do attitude, pride in work, creative thinking, willingness to collaborate, and ability to work independently.

Nice To Haves

• Experience working with state or local departments of transportation (DOTs).
• Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D.

Responsibilities

• Develop engineering designs for projects from preliminary concepts through final design.
• Prepare specifications, cost estimates, and final bid packages.
• Coordinate with client technical staff and project managers throughout project delivery.
• Support design-bid-build and design-build project execution.
• Mentor junior engineers in developing final designs and construction plans.
• Coordinate design activities and meetings among design staff, subcontractors, and client managers.
• Contribute to project decisions related to technical approaches, cost, and schedule performance.
• Participate in professional organizations and industry-related activities.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
