About The Position

LJB Engineering is seeking a full-time Mid-Level Design Engineer in Raleigh, North Carolina. The role develops engineering designs from preliminary concepts through final design and supports project delivery across design-bid-build and design-build projects. The engineer coordinates with clients, project managers, design staff, subcontractors, and client managers; contributes to technical, cost, and schedule decisions; and mentors junior engineers. The role offers the opportunity to work on infrastructure and site design projects alongside a multidisciplinary team. Salary range: $85,000–$140,000, based on experience, certifications, and regional market standards.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license.
• 4–9 years of relevant engineering design experience.
• Engineering design and plan development skills.
• Experience with specifications and cost estimating.
• Client and stakeholder coordination skills.
• Project scheduling and technical decision-making skills.
• Mentorship and team collaboration skills.
• Ability to support design-bid-build and design-build projects.

Nice To Haves

• Experience working with state or local DOTs.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D.

Responsibilities

• Develop engineering designs for projects from preliminary concepts through final design.
• Prepare specifications, cost estimates, and final bid packages.
• Coordinate with client technical staff and project managers throughout project delivery.
• Support design-bid-build and design-build project execution.
• Mentor junior engineers in developing final designs and construction plans.
• Coordinate design activities and meetings among design staff, subcontractors, and client managers.
• Contribute to project decisions related to technical approaches, cost, and schedule performance.
• Participate in professional organizations and industry-related activities.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
