Position Overview: The Microsoft 365 Collaboration Engineer is responsible for the design, administration, optimization, security, and user enablement of Microsoft 365 collaboration services. This role focuses on delivering a secure, reliable, and intuitive digital workplace experience across Microsoft Teams, SharePoint Online, OneDrive for Business, Exchange Online, Microsoft Viva, Microsoft Stream, Microsoft Forms, Power Platform integrations, and related Microsoft 365 services. The ideal candidate combines strong technical administration skills with business-facing collaboration expertise. This individual will partner with IT operations, cybersecurity, compliance, business units, service desk, and project teams to improve productivity, governance, adoption, and operational support of the Microsoft 365 ecosystem.

Requirements

  • At least 4 years in Microsoft 365 administration, collaboration engineering, or cloud productivity platforms.
  • Experience independently administering Teams, SharePoint Online, OneDrive, Microsoft 365 Groups, and collaboration policies.
  • Experience with governance standards for collaboration services.
  • Troubleshooting experience wtih complex platforms, permissions, sync, guest access, and sharing issues.
  • PowerShell automation, reporting, and administration, experience
  • Collaboration and communication skills required.
  • Experience with migrations, feature rollouts, adoption programs, and operational improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Administer and support Microsoft 365 collaboration services including Microsoft Teams, SharePoint Online, OneDrive for Business, Microsoft 365 Groups, Exchange Online collaboration features, Planner, Loop, Stream, Forms, Viva, and related workloads.
  • Configure and manage Microsoft Teams policies, meeting policies, messaging policies, app policies, external access, guest access, channel governance, Teams templates, and lifecycle settings.
  • Administer SharePoint Online sites, hub sites, permissions, site collections, sharing policies, storage, metadata, information architecture, and site lifecycle management.
  • Manage OneDrive for Business configuration, sync policies, sharing controls, retention settings, and user support needs.
  • Support Microsoft 365 Groups lifecycle, naming policies, expiration policies, ownership governance, and access reviews.
  • Monitor Microsoft 365 service health, usage, adoption, and operational performance.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain governance standards for Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, guest access, external sharing, and Microsoft 365 Groups.
  • Partner with cybersecurity and compliance teams to align Microsoft 365 collaboration services with security, privacy, retention, and regulatory requirements.
  • Configure collaboration-related security controls such as conditional access alignment, sensitivity labels, data loss prevention policies, retention labels, information barriers, audit logging, and access reviews.
  • Support secure external collaboration with vendors, partners, contractors, and third parties.
  • Participate in risk assessments and remediation efforts related to Microsoft 365 collaboration services.
  • Partner with business stakeholders to understand collaboration needs and translate requirements into Microsoft 365 solutions.
  • Promote effective use of Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, Viva, and related tools through training, documentation, standards, and best practices.
  • Create and maintain user-facing guides, knowledge base articles, FAQs, governance playbooks, and support documentation.
  • Support change management and adoption campaigns for new Microsoft 365 features and collaboration capabilities.
  • Provide guidance on replacing legacy file shares, email-based workflows, and shadow IT collaboration tools with governed Microsoft 365 solutions.
  • Design and implement scalable Microsoft 365 collaboration solutions using standard platform capabilities.
  • Use PowerShell, Microsoft Graph, Power Platform, and admin center tools to automate administration, reporting, provisioning, and lifecycle management.
  • Develop scripts and operational processes for Teams creation, SharePoint provisioning, permissions reporting, license reporting, and governance enforcement.
  • Support integrations between Microsoft 365 collaboration tools and third-party platforms where appropriate.
  • Evaluate new Microsoft 365 features and recommend adoption, configuration, or governance changes.
  • Serve as an escalation point for Microsoft 365 collaboration-related incidents, requests, and problems.
  • Troubleshoot issues related to Teams meetings, chat, channels, SharePoint permissions, OneDrive sync, guest access, external sharing, file collaboration, and Microsoft 365 Groups.
  • Work with Microsoft Support, managed service providers, and internal teams to resolve complex platform issues.
  • Participate in incident response, root cause analysis, and service improvement efforts.
  • Maintain operational runbooks, support procedures, monitoring practices, and administrative documentation.
  • Lead or contribute to Microsoft 365 collaboration projects, migrations, tenant optimization efforts, and feature rollouts.
  • Support migrations from file shares, legacy SharePoint environments, Google Workspace, Slack, Box, Dropbox, or other collaboration platforms into Microsoft 365.
  • Participate in merger, acquisition, divestiture, or tenant-to-tenant collaboration planning when required.
  • Assist with license analysis, service rationalization, and roadmap planning for Microsoft 365 collaboration workloads.
  • Stay current with Microsoft 365 roadmap changes, product updates, and industry best practices.
