About The Position

Seeking a Senior Applications Engineer with deep technical expertise in IC design and characterization and strong technical communication skills to support customer engagements and develop comprehensive product documentation. The role serves as a technical bridge between design teams, customers, and business development organizations. The position creates technical specifications, characterization data, application guidelines, product datasheets, application notes, design guides, and reference designs. It also provides customer and internal technical support, including design reviews, presentations, training, and troubleshooting. The engineer analyzes silicon measurement data, validates product performance, defines and executes characterization test plans, and supports failure analysis and root-cause investigations. The role collaborates with product marketing, IC design, design and test engineering, and sales teams on product positioning, product definition, customer feedback, product features, and customer engagements. It is office-based with occasional laboratory work and may involve 10–20% travel to customer sites or industry conferences. U.S. citizenship is required due to ITAR restrictions on technical data; the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance may be required for certain programs.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience in IC applications engineering, design engineering, or a related technical role.
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proven track record developing technical datasheets and application documentation.
  • Ability to translate complex technical concepts into customer-facing content.
  • Exceptional technical writing skills and ability to create clear, accurate, comprehensive documentation.
  • Experience with documentation tools and version control systems.
  • Experience with laboratory equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and signal generators.
  • Experience with semiconductor device physics, CMOS technology, and circuit operation.
  • Familiarity with industry-standard communication interfaces such as PCIe, Ethernet, DDR, and SerDes.
  • Knowledge of IC packaging, thermal management, and power delivery considerations.
  • Proficiency interpreting and analyzing electrical test data and characterization results.
  • Strong presentation skills for technical and business audiences.
  • Strong understanding of digital and/or analog IC design principles.
  • U.S. citizenship is required due to ITAR restrictions on technical data.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain security clearance may be required for certain programs.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree.
  • Background in system-level design or board-level integration.
  • Experience supporting government or military programs.
  • Experience with high-reliability or radiation-hardened IC technologies.
  • Familiarity with ITAR regulations and defense/aerospace industry requirements.
  • Knowledge of EDA tools and design flows, such as Synopsys, Cadence, or Mentor.
  • Understanding of ASIC development processes and foundry technologies, including GlobalFoundries, Intel, and TSMC.

Responsibilities

  • Create detailed technical specifications, characterization data, and application guidelines.
  • Develop and maintain product datasheets for ASIC and standard product offerings.
  • Document electrical characteristics, timing diagrams, functional descriptions, and package information.
  • Ensure technical documentation meets industry standards and customer requirements.
  • Produce application notes, design guides, and reference designs.
  • Conduct design reviews and guide customers on IC integration and system-level implementation.
  • Deliver technical presentations and training to customers and field application engineers.
  • Provide pre-sales and post-sales technical support to customers and internal teams.
  • Troubleshoot customer design issues and recommend solutions.
  • Analyze silicon measurement data and validate performance against specifications.
  • Define and execute IC characterization test plans across process, voltage, and temperature corners.
  • Support failure analysis and root-cause investigations.
  • Work with design and test engineering teams to optimize product performance.
  • Collaborate with product marketing to define product positioning and competitive advantages.
  • Contribute to new product definition based on customer feedback and market requirements.
