About The Position

Loyola Medicine, a member of Trinity Health, is a nationally ranked academic, quaternary care system based in Chicago's western suburbs. Loyola Medicine Transport is based at Loyola University Medical Center and is part of a three-hospital system including Loyola University Medical Center, Gottlieb Memorial Hospital, and MacNeal Hospital. In this role, the Technical Specialist-Microbiology is responsible for supporting the delivery of patient care by performing laboratory testing that is utilized in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disease. This includes waived, moderate and high complexity testing. Overseeing Hematology as well as various other areas.

Requirements

Experience with waived, moderate, and high complexity testing in a "clinical" laboratory setting through education or work experience required
Bachelor's Degree- Medical Laboratory Science Program
Specific Degree(s): Medical Technology/Technician or Medical Laboratory Science, Biology or Chemistry
Certified Medical Technologist, Medical Laboratory Scientist, laboratory discipline specific or specialty certificate (ASCP or AMT)
3-5 years of previous job-related experience

Meets CLIA requirements for a general supervisor (B.S. degree and 1 year clinical experience, or MS degree and 1 year clinical experience)

Responsibilities

Collaborates with the medical director, manager and faculty in the development of new procedures or programs.
Evaluates, validates and implements new instrumentation and procedures.
Develops written procedures to maintain regulatory compliance and support new instrumentation and test methodologies.
Works with the director to review and revise procedure manuals to ensure test accuracy and regulatory and accreditation requirements.
Communicates changes in policies and procedures to appropriate medical center staff and/or clients.
