The Micro Soldering Technician performs precision hand-soldering and microscopic reworks on surface-mount technology (SMT) and through-hole components. Working primarily under high-magnification stereomicroscopes, the technician fixes broken traces, swaps complex microchips, and rectifies manufacturing defects on delicate circuitry.

Requirements

Exceptional hand-eye coordination and a steady hand are essential for manipulating microscopic parts.
Mastery of fine-tipped micro-soldering irons, hot air rework stations, preheaters, & ultrasonic cleaners.
Correct utilization of specialized materials like liquid/gel flux, low-melt solder, solder wicks, & isopropyl alcohol.
Strict adherence to Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) protocols to avoid destroying sensitive microelectronics.
High school diploma or equivalent; technical degree or vocational certification in electronics is preferred.
Generally requires 1 to 4+ years of hands-on experience in fine-pitch electronic assembly or hardware repair.

Nice To Haves

Industry-standard certifications such as IPC-A-610 , IPC-7711/7721 , or J-STD-001 are heavily preferred by employers.

Responsibilities

Perform intricate hand-soldering of microscopic components
Diagnose, desolder, and replace damaged or defective parts without damaging surrounding traces.
Utilize high-powered digital and stereomicroscopes to inspect solder joints for quality and compliance.
Use multimeters, oscilloscopes, and automated test equipment to troubleshoot inoperative assemblies.
Review work against strict industry quality guidelines, most notably IPC-A-610 or J-STD-001 certification standards.
Maintain detailed logs of components repaired, materials used, and testing outcomes.
