About The Position

A Manager in Visual Design manages people with significant creative responsibilities and in addition articulates the visual design strategy and principles to the business. She/he determines the visual design toolkit. She/he leads the training of the visual design team and is responsible for hiring.

Requirements

  • 8 years of experience
  • Bachelors or Masters degree in a design subject (Psychology, UX, HCI, Product Design, Design, Graphic Design, etc discipline) is preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Rallies the cross functional team around customer needs and processes needed to refine them.
  • Has an in-depth understanding of customer use cases.
  • Maintains close contact with customers to gain a sense for where the market is moving and to draw insights among multiple external events.
  • Understands competitors and regulatory environment.
  • Segments markets and understands needs of those sub-segments in greater detail.
  • Identifies if we have the right people in the right places to solve problems.
  • Leverages the team to identify different creative solutions.
  • Considers the problem from a number of angles.
  • Oversees the collection of feedback from users, other designers and stakeholders.
  • Oversees the testing of solutions to check it solves the problem.
  • Presents design learning to stakeholders to guide future projects.
  • Leads the User-Centred visual design process, making sure the team follow consistent steps.
  • Facilitates workshops for stakeholders to give feedback on design work.
  • Represents visual design on cross-functional working groups.
  • Has sign off / governance of visual design team output.
  • Is in close collaboration with the UX Research Manager I to ensure alignment.
  • Is in close collaboration with the UX Design Manager I to ensure alignment.
  • Oversees team in the collection of data from analytics packages, customer insight or other sources to understand context of design work.
  • Proactively uses data to establish key metrics for team.
  • Identifies gaps where data is needed and works with business to fill them.
  • Regularly oversees the testing of design work.
  • Ensures team iterates work based on testing and data analysis.
  • Uses data to inform testing future strategy.
  • Has an excellent knowledge of the tech stack of the organisation.
  • Coaches junior designers in technical skills.
  • Identifies need for training in technical skills by team and organises training.
  • Understands full capabilities of design software (Adobe, Sketch) and oversees its use by the team.
  • Negotiates licences to design software for team.
  • Takes ownership of own development and career
  • Initiates regular conversations with manager, coach or mentor regarding self-development
