The BNSF Railway Finance Department provides innovative strategic solutions and world-class financial services to support BNSF's overall performance. The department is committed to maintaining integrity and recognizing the company's successes, ensuring that BNSF remains a leader in the railway industry. Within the Finance Department, several specialized departments contribute to its overall mission: Controller, Revenue Management, Strategic Sourcing, Tax, Treasury, and Strategic Studies. Each department is vital in managing BNSF's financial health and strategic financial planning. These departments work collaboratively to secure BNSF's economic stability and support its growth and innovation within the railway industry. This is a full-time position located in Fort Worth, TX. For certain positions, including this one, employees can work one day per week remotely. Our leaders also foster a culture where work life balance, which requires flexibility for when life happens, is important and respected. Travel is minimal, less than 5%.

Requirements

  • Able to work now and in the future without BNSF’s assistance (whether monetary, through sponsorship, or otherwise) in obtaining, maintaining, or extending employment authorization (including H-1B, STEM OPT/CPT, or TN nonimmigrant status).
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher Accounting, Economics, Finance, Marketing, Industrial Engineering, Business or related field
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in Finance or business related field
  • Broad understanding of railroad transportation environment and knowledge of key business drivers that impact financial performance
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, communication and project management skills
  • Advanced knowledge in the Microsoft Office Suite of tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Nice To Haves

  • MBA
  • Experience with Operations, Marketing, Budgets and/or internal activity based cost system
  • Proficient in BiQuery / GQL / SQL preferred.
  • Knowledge of various BNSF reporting tools, including Teradata Query assistant, Tableau, Reports and Graphs, etc. preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Marketing Business Groups on Cost and Profitability requests.
  • Support Operations and Service design, providing cost & profitability support to a range of efficiency projects, including train consolidations, route comparisons, double-up options, and multi-modal opportunities.
  • Support Technology & Strategy leadership with efficiency projects to support cost savings initiatives.
  • Review and communicate monthly profitability results and cost system enhancements.
  • Act on behalf of the business group in the design of methodology changes for BNSF’s activity-based cost system.
  • Support new business opportunities and changes in operations through prospective costing studies.
  • Assist with the development of costs and financial measures for the various business units.
  • Lead projects that support improving profitability and report/present findings.
