About The Position

The Manager of Perioperative Business Analytics is responsible for providing support for Perioperative Services, managing processes related to financial and strategic planning, statistical studies, and process improvement activities. The Manager of Perioperative Business Analytics will oversee internal initiatives like monitoring and management of staffing benchmarks, block scheduling management, OR utilization, timely processing of OR patient billing, maintaining OR activity statistics. The Manager of Perioperative Business Analytics works in collaboration with Nursing Directors, Surgical Directors, Chairs of Surgery and Anesthesiology, as well as System Supply Chain, Sterile Processing, Patient Access, Finance, to support operational related and strategic planning and process improvements. Additionally, working in collaboration with surgery service line administration to support business decisions related to access, scheduling, block allocation and utilization. Manages the flow of business data and statistical methods to provide insight into business performance in the Perioperative Service line and suggest area and methods of improving operations. Implements and oversees the analytical approaches and methodologies. Presents insight and recommendations to management for decision making and strategic planning. Controls and develops internal/external information sources for business analysis. The Manager of Perioperative Business Analytics ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met.

Requirements

  • Bachelor`s degree in business administration, hospital administration, or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years management experience in health care business management and analytics.
  • Working knowledge of and be familiar with (a) patient billing practices and guidelines, (b) computerized charge capture programs and fee schedule compilation related to Perioperative supplies and services, (c) purchasing, materials management, and inventory management in the perioperative environment, and (d) reprocessing and sterilization of surgical instruments and equipment, as related to inventory / asset management.
  • Demonstrated experience with personal computer based applications including spreadsheets, word processing, and data base systems.
  • Knowledge of Epic.
  • Report writing capabilities.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in process improvement and lean principles and tools strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience with OR block scheduling and benchmark management for staffing strongly preferred.
  • Management experience in a Perioperative environment preferred.
  • Experience with Perioperative documentation.
  • Very strong Microsoft Office skills including Excel, PowerPoint and Access.
  • Excellent analytical skills.
  • Familiarity with Perioperative processes.
  • Strong public speaking/presentation skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills in dealing with all levels of Staff, Management and Physicians.
  • Must be able to handle multiple complex tasks and priorities.

  • Familiarity with perioperative products and equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Manages financial and strategic planning analysis, statistical studies, and process improvement activities.
  • Provide statistical, financial and benchmark reports on the Perioperative performance.
  • Present results to Perioperative Leaders and physicians.
  • Analyzes and provides focused areas for improvement to support improved throughput.
  • Collaborate with OR Committee to develop implement, and monitor policies and procedures to improve utilization and efficiency.
  • Support development and provide surgeon and procedure level supply cost per case data in collaboration with supply chain.
  • Provides guidance and support in developing ROI and/or cost benefit analyses for new product introduction, capital equipment and or program development
  • Works with various third party Perioperative Service providers in aligning business processes
  • Assists with the coordination / maintenance of preference cards as related to cost per case
  • Improve utilization and efficiency by providing weekly and monthly data.
  • Assists in developing, preparing, submitting budgets, monitoring staffing benchmark data, budget adherence and forecasting.
  • Assisting as needed with business plan development for new and expanding programs.
  • Develops and correlates blocked booking statistics.
  • Monitors charging procedure to assure compliance and maximizing revenue.
  • Evaluates feasibility, cost, and priority of physician and personnel requests regarding equipment, supplies, and personnel.
  • Explains variations and fluctuations in data provided for efficiency management of perioperative services.
  • Responsible for physician, patient and employee satisfaction.
  • Provides data for the units to achieve goals that are aligned with the hospital goals and priorities as determined by senior leadership.
  • Adheres to the standards identified in the Medical Center`s Organizational and Managerial Competencies.
