Mgr, HR Operations - HRIS - Seattle, WA (Hybrid)

NordstromSeattle, WA
$93,500 - $155,000Hybrid

About The Position

The Manager, HRIS leads the operational backbone of Nordstrom's HR technology ecosystem running the day-to-day platforms, processes, and support that keep HR, Payroll, and the business moving. Reporting to the Manager, Program Management, this role leads a team of Systems Analysts, primarily early-career talent, and will be accountable for developing them into strong HRIS professionals while delivering reliable, high-quality operational outcomes. Beyond operational oversight, the Manager is a leader on the broader HR Operations team: shaping how the HRIS function matures, working with stakeholders across HR, Technology, Payroll, and Finance, and contributing to the operational excellence that positions Nordstrom's HR systems to scale with the business.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in HRIS/HR technology in large, complex enterprise environments, including hands-on operational ownership of core HR platforms and a track record of delivering reliable, measurable business impact.
  • 2+ years of experience leading, mentoring, or managing system analysts in a fast-paced environment, including developing early-career analysts into independent contributors.
  • Demonstrated experience with system configuration, integrations, and user permission management within HRIS platforms; Workday and/or ServiceNow experience strongly preferred; platform-specific certifications (e.g., Workday Pro) and HR certifications (PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP) a plus.
  • Familiarity with HR data security, compliance requirements, and audit standards as they relate to employee data management.
  • Proficiency with HRIS reporting tools, including Workday Report Writer or ServiceNow Platform Analytics, to generate operational reports, validate data integrity, and support HR process and compliance needs.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills — able to frame operational tradeoffs and platform issues for leaders, influence across functions without direct authority, and convert ambiguity into clear direction for a team of less experienced analysts.
  • Experience with agile development methodologies and project management practices, including proficiency with tools such as JIRA, Confluence, Smartsheet, and Microsoft Suite.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of Systems Analysts — primarily early-career — building their technical depth, judgment, and ability to operate independently over time.
  • Set the bar for quality and accountability on the team and foster an inclusive, results-driven culture — guiding analysts through day-to-day operational work, projects, and process changes with clarity on priorities, roles, and outcomes.
  • Support individual career development through ongoing feedback, skills development, and growth opportunities.
  • Lead assigned portions of the HRIS operational portfolio and intake — triaging and sequencing incoming requests across HR, Technology, and business stakeholders, partnering with the Manager, Program Mgmt on prioritization, and managing team capacity and delivery cadence to keep operational commitments on track.
  • Serve as a senior subject matter expert on HRIS matters and primary escalation point for assigned team and cross-functional partners — coaching analysts through complex issues rather than solving around them.
  • Partner with HR, Technology, Payroll, Finance, and system vendors on day-to-day operational execution and platform health — surfacing issues early, shaping practical solutions, and bringing an informed point of view into platform and investment discussions led by HR Operations leadership.
  • Operate and continuously improve the governance model for HR systems — running intake, prioritization, change-control, and documentation processes consistently, and tightening standards as the team and platforms mature.
  • Own end-to-end execution, documentation, and continuous improvement of assigned HR business processes — including hands-on system configuration work across Workday and ServiceNow — ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and alignment with business needs.
  • Support system upgrades, enhancements, and new module implementations from requirements through post-go-live stabilization.
  • Contribute to HR transformation and the multi-year technology roadmap — identifying opportunities where emerging capabilities (AI, automation, analytics) can improve how HR operates.
  • Own the MyNordstrom (ServiceNow HRSD) knowledge base, intake forms, microsites/news center, and case/platform analytics, ensuring accuracy, accessibility, and continuous improvement.
  • Maintain reliable, compliant data exchange across HR and enterprise systems through oversight of integrations, data feeds, and file management.
  • Provide operational support for core HR platforms Workday, ServiceNow HRSD, Oracle, Paradox, and Glint.
  • Ensure data integrity, security, and compliance through established controls, role- and user-based access management, regular system audits, and adherence to applicable data privacy laws and regulatory requirements.
