About The Position

The Manager of Electric Operations provides planning, direction, regulatory compliance and oversight to assure completion of field construction, maintenance, service and emergency work to Company Electric Transmission and Distribution facilities in a safe and cost-effective manner. Provide input into strategic decisions for multi-regional areas and/or statewide. Own metrics results or assigned as accountable for metrics that impact co-worker compensation program (EICP), while leading the teams that execute on the tactics to deliver functional metrics. This leadership role has deep technical and operational knowledge of electric grid and provides input to company-wide undergrounding strategy, statewide job plans, and budget. Foster relationships inside and outside the company across a broad spectrum including local government officials, communication companies, peers in other utility companies, etc. This role also provides oversight / direction to salaried and union employees, and will interface with multiple workgroups and customers internal and external to the Company.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of safe work practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge and application of work methods, work processes, and related technology in the field of Electric Transmission, Distribution, and Meter or Generation Operations.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Technical or related field with (4) years of related electrical or leadership experience.
  • Associate Degree with (6) years of related experience stated above.
  • Highschool Diploma with (8) years of related experience stated above.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts regular safety meetings, participates as a member of safety committee; investigates and completes necessary incident reports and accident reports; maintains records, prepares and submits required reports for appropriate agencies.
  • Lead the design or implementation of key operational projects impacting multiple locations.
  • Direct supervision of Electric Field Supervisors who oversee a technical workforce that includes a technical / professional unionized workforce performing technical work such as electrical service restoration and electric systems troubleshooting.
  • Provides leadership of team and ensures adherence of Corporate Safety Manual, Electric Methods and Procedures Manual, Electric Distribution Manual, MIOSHA standards, OSHA standards, DOT standards, Business Continuity Plans, Code of Conduct and all Employee Policy and Process manuals.
  • Responsible for grievance procedures, on investigations (safety and disciplinary) and associated disciplinary recourse.
  • Lead and collaborate with peers, employees, outside group or industry leaders to create and maintain an inclusive work environment that resolves issue escalation by achieving a common goal for safety, compliance, quality, productivity, engagement.
  • Lead regional restoration efforts while managing and monitoring work performed by company and non-company overhead crews performing maintenance and replacement work for the purposed of storm response.
  • Ensure maintenance and construction procedures and safe work practices are followed while reporting results in the Incident Command Structure.
  • Performing the role of Incident Commander or LVD Supervisor during storms.
  • Conducts regular safety meetings, performs incident investigation and completes necessary incident reports and accident reports; maintains records, prepares and submits required reports for appropriate agencies related to performed ICS roles.
  • As a manager leader, participate in On Call rotation, on call or activated for storm restoration (to lead both Consumers Energy and/or co Lead the hiring, developing and mentoring of supervisors.
  • Manage a staff of Managers who perform the following: Time sheet approval, estimated straight time accounting, CDL program compliance, administering a state recognized apprenticeship program, annual required Health Safety and Environmental (HSE) training.
  • Administering policy and procedure updates and influencing other outside of your department to achieve workplan.
  • Driver Vehicle Inspection Records adherence, ARCOS administration (automated employee roster callout system database), request and reserve on-call resources, request and reserve storm restoration resources.
  • Personal Protective Equipment acquisition and distribution including inspection, testing and replacement.
  • Tool acquisition, distribution, replacement and adherence.
