About The Position

Consumers Energy is Michigan’s largest energy provider, serving 6.8 million residents across 68 Lower Peninsula counties. The company's primary focus is ensuring reliable, clean, and affordable energy delivery 24/7. This position is not eligible for immigration sponsorship and cannot accommodate individuals with CPT, OPT, or STEM OPT. The role is based onsite at the Battle Creek Service Center in Battle Creek, MI, and supports both Battle Creek and Coldwater Service Centers. The selected candidate must be within commuting distance or willing to relocate, with relocation assistance available for qualified individuals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Technical, or related field with (4) years of related electrical or leadership experience.
  • OR Associate Degree with (6) years of related experience.
  • OR Highschool Diploma with (8) years of related experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of electric distribution operations and construction.
  • Leadership ability, including the capacity to lead change efforts.
  • Problem-solving skills at a function-wide level.
  • Presentation Skills.
  • Ability to transfer experience and knowledge.
  • Ability to recommend solutions to Executive level co-workers.
  • Ability to communicate as an owner of the business at different levels.
  • Negotiate with local Union Leadership in multiple locations.
  • Ability to manage multiple objectives outside direct span of control to impact statewide or companywide metrics.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of safe work practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge and application of work methods, work processes, and related technology in the field of Electric Transmission, Distribution, and Meter or Generation Operations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide planning, direction, regulatory compliance, and oversight for field construction, maintenance, service, and emergency work on Company Electric Transmission and Distribution facilities in a safe and cost-effective manner.
  • Contribute to strategic decisions for multi-regional and/or statewide operations.
  • Own or be accountable for metrics that impact the co-worker compensation program (EICP).
  • Lead teams executing tactics to achieve functional metrics.
  • Provide deep technical and operational knowledge of the electric grid and input into company-wide undergrounding strategy, statewide job plans, and budget.
  • Foster relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including local government officials, communication companies, and peers in other utility companies.
  • Provide oversight and direction to salaried and union employees, interfacing with multiple workgroups and customers.
  • Conduct regular safety meetings, participate in safety committees, investigate incidents, complete reports, and maintain records for appropriate agencies.
  • Lead the design or implementation of key operational projects impacting multiple locations.
  • Directly supervise Electric Field Supervisors overseeing a technical and professional unionized workforce.
  • Ensure adherence to Corporate Safety Manual, Electric Methods and Procedures Manual, Electric Distribution Manual, MIOSHA, OSHA, DOT standards, Business Continuity Plans, Code of Conduct, and all Employee Policy and Process manuals.
  • Manage grievance procedures, investigations (safety and disciplinary), and associated disciplinary recourse.
  • Lead and collaborate with peers, employees, and external groups to create and maintain an inclusive work environment that resolves issues and achieves common goals for safety, compliance, quality, productivity, and engagement.
  • Lead regional restoration efforts during storms, managing and monitoring work performed by company and non-company crews.
  • Ensure maintenance and construction procedures and safe work practices are followed during storm response, reporting results within the Incident Command Structure.
  • Perform the role of Incident Commander or LVD Supervisor during storms.
  • Participate in On-Call rotation and be activated for storm restoration.
  • Lead the hiring, development, and mentoring of supervisors.
  • Manage a staff of Managers responsible for tasks such as timesheet approval, accounting, CDL program compliance, apprenticeship program administration, HSE training, policy updates, Driver Vehicle Inspection Records, ARCOS administration, resource requests, and Personal Protective Equipment/Tool acquisition and management.
