About The Position

As part of Lam Research’s Global Products Group, the Metrology Technician supports the design and engineering of etch and deposition products by processing samples with FEI/Thermo Fisher Helios SEM tools. Work includes top-down and cross-sectional SEM imaging, as well as imaging AutoTEM-prepared lamellae with the SEM tool’s installed STEM detector. The role follows laboratory methodologies and quality standards, optimizes sample throughput, coordinates work estimates and methodologies with lab management and team members, and helps identify workflow improvements. The technician is responsible for protecting customer materials and intellectual property.

Requirements

At least 4 years of experience with a BS degree in a physical science, a specialized AS degree, or equivalent professional training in materials science and analytical techniques.
Experience operating single-beam SEM tools, particularly preparing cleaved cross-sections for XSEM imaging.
Knowledge of SEM physics, including vacuum systems, voltage/current effects, and methods for mitigating charging issues.
Comfort working a night-shift compressed schedule.

Nice To Haves

Sample preparation experience using precision cleaving tools.
Familiarity with key developments and materials in the semiconductor industry.
Experience creating and presenting technical documentation.
Experience in customer IP protection and proper sample handling.

Responsibilities

Process samples using FEI/Thermo Fisher Helios SEM tools for top-down and cross-sectional SEM imaging.
Image AutoTEM-prepared lamellae using the SEM tool’s installed STEM detector.
Follow laboratory methodology for TDSEM/XSEM sample preparation in accordance with quality standards.
Optimize personal workflows to ensure efficient sample throughput.
Communicate work completion time estimates to lab management.
Provide feedback to lab management to support continuous improvement in laboratory workflows.
Communicate with team members to ensure alignment on methodologies.
Protect customer materials and intellectual property at all times.
