Metrology Engineer

Quantum Space•Tulsa, OK
•$68,000 - $80,000•Onsite

About The Position

Quantum Space is seeking a skilled, detail-oriented Metrology Engineer to lead dimensional inspection and measurement capabilities for its Ranger spacecraft program at its Tulsa manufacturing center. The role establishes the metrology infrastructure needed to support precision spacecraft manufacturing and the facility’s transition to rate production. The engineer will develop and implement reliable, repeatable, and efficient measurement processes; select and commission inspection equipment; develop programs for flight hardware; and establish metrology standards that ensure dimensional accuracy and manufacturing consistency. The position works closely with design engineering, manufacturing, quality, and production teams and applies hands-on dimensional inspection expertise to complex measurement challenges in a fast-paced spacecraft manufacturing environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline or a related technical field.
  • At least 3 years of experience in dimensional metrology, CMM programming, or quality engineering in a precision manufacturing environment.
  • Expert-level understanding of GD&T per ASME Y14.5.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, protected individual per 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain required U.S. Department of State authorizations, to comply with U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including ITAR.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience programming CMMs in PC-DMIS, Calypso, MCOSMOS, or Polyworks.
  • Experience with Leica, FARO, or API laser trackers and Spatial Analyzer or similar software.
  • Experience with structured-light or laser scanning and point-cloud analysis.
  • Experience with large-structure and spacecraft alignment measurement.
  • Experience setting up a metrology lab or inspection area in a new facility.
  • Experience with gauge R&R, measurement uncertainty, and ISO 17025 calibration practices.
  • Experience with AS9102 first-article inspection and PPAP.
  • Familiarity with AS9100 quality systems and mission assurance practices for flight hardware.

Responsibilities

  • Program and operate CMMs, laser trackers, structured-light and laser scanners, and optical measurement systems.
  • Interpret engineering drawings and GD&T per ASME Y14.5; develop inspection plans and datum strategies for machined, welded, and composite hardware.
  • Specify, procure, and commission metrology equipment and inspection fixtures for the Tulsa facility.
  • Develop first-article inspection packages per AS9102 and in-process inspection methods for production.
  • Perform measurement system analysis, including gauge R&R and uncertainty budgets, and establish calibration and gauge-control programs.
  • Support large-structure alignment and as-built measurement during spacecraft integration.
  • Partner with design and manufacturing engineering on tolerance analysis, datum schemes, and inspectability.
  • Analyze inspection data to identify process drift and drive corrective action with manufacturing engineering.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, and vision benefits.
  • Generous leave.
  • HSA.
  • 401(k) matching.
  • Equity participation and competitive equity grants for the majority of full-time offers.
