Metrology Analyst LPCS

PCC Talent Acquisition Portal•Portland, OR

About The Position

The Metrology Analyst creates computer programs and applications to verify specified dimensional measurements on development and production parts, ensuring compliance with customer specifications and PCC and industry standards. The role uses Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs) and conventional measuring devices to inspect parts, tools, and fixtures, and prepares layout and calibration documentation. The position measures and evaluates castings, dies, wax molds, and fixtures; interprets blueprint dimensions; establishes measurement reference coordinates; prepares layout reports; and works with Engineering to investigate dimensional deviations. It also develops CMM inspection programs, routines, macros, files, and reports, manipulates inspection data, and documents program outputs and usage instructions. The role requires safe operation of equipment and adherence to plant and department safety rules.

Requirements

  • Complete the PCC Metrology Certification program; outside hires must certify to the PCC Certification standard within 90 days of hire, or have an equivalent combination of classroom training and experience.
  • Meet all qualifications for Layout Inspector and have at least two years of experience as a Layout Inspector, or equivalent experience as determined by the hiring department.
  • Documented ability to use CMMs, including a rotary table or indexing probe head.
  • Documented ability to use off-line computer programming equipment to program a CMM.
  • Ability to perform technical mathematics, analytic geometry, and trigonometry calculations.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and follow Quality Control Manuals, technical specifications, blueprints, and drawings, with a thorough understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Physical ability to perform the essential job functions.

Responsibilities

  • Position and measure specified dimensional features of selected castings, dies, wax molds, and fixtures to verify dimensional integrity.
  • Identify and interpret casting dimensions on blueprints and construct three-dimensional plane coordinates for measurement references.
  • Perform technical mathematics, analytic geometry, and trigonometry calculations.
  • Measure and record specified dimensions using CMMs and conventional measuring equipment.
  • Prepare and review layout reports describing measurements taken.
  • Compare and analyze measurements against customer requirements, PCC standards, and industry standards.
  • Evaluate measurement data with Engineering Departments and identify probable causes of deviations.
  • Inspect new and reprocessed tools and fixtures for compliance with dimensional specifications.
  • Conduct source inspections at tooling and fixture vendors and review vendor inspection methods and reports.
  • Perform fixture calibrations and maintain complete and accurate calibration records.
  • Create part inspection programs, routines, database files, and customized printed reports using low-level computer language and CMM operational codes.
  • Manipulate ASCII and IGES files and direct data transmission to requesting departments.
  • Generate inspection data using CAD where applicable to LSBO and TBO.
  • Prepare inspection plans and create automated CMM inspection programs for parts, wax patterns, or fixtures according to customer specifications.
  • Document CMM inspection program output and usage instructions.
  • Follow plant and department safety rules, operate equipment and tools safely, and identify and report safety problems.
  • Perform other tasks as directed.
