About The Position

This is a temporary to hire position that offers flexibility in hours. The Metrologist will serve as a technical resource to Quality Assurance, customers, production, and engineering. They will provide support and data by performing First Article Inspections and Capability Studies, developing and performing first article inspection, and performing Gage R & R to identify error sources. The role involves developing or assisting with developing calibration methods and techniques, directing personnel in the design, manufacture, evaluation, and calibration of measurement standards, and advising others on resolving measurement problems. The Metrologist will also review inspections performed by other team members, participate in Quality Planning meetings, and develop inspection methods for ongoing In-Process Inspection. The position requires the ability to effectively operate equipment, adhere to all safety procedures, and maintain a clean and safe work environment. The company prioritizes Quality & Safety.

Requirements

  • Two- or four-year degree in a related field; or four to ten years related experience and / or training OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of six years’ experience in quality assurance
  • Minimum of two years’ experience with quality systems in an ISO 9001/13485 certified environment.
  • Knowledge of calibration systems, first article and mechanical inspection methods and gauging systems (including optical/Vision and automated/CMM), blueprint reading and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, specification interpretation, process validation principles and protocols.
  • Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, the ability to adjust focus and color vision.
  • Basic knowledge of computers, extensive use required for position.
  • Effectively communicate with supervisor.
  • The ability to read, write, and comprehend information provided.
  • Stand for most of the work shift.
  • Use hands and fingers to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, crouch, bend, twist, and only occasionally sit.
  • Lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Heavier amounts can be moved with assistance of equipment.

  • Previous experience in calibration systems, first article inspections, advanced mathematics and statistics.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a technical resource to Quality Assurance, customers, production and engineering relative to the interpretation and application of customer drawings, and specifications.
  • Provide support and data to Quality Assurance and Engineering by performing First Article Inspections and Capability Studies as needed for new and existing product.
  • Develop and perform first article inspection.
  • Perform Gage R & R and identify error sources contributing to uncertainty of results to determine reliability of measurement process.
  • Redesign or adjust measurement method to minimize error.
  • Develop or assist with developing calibration methods and techniques based on principles of measurement science, technical analysis or measurement problems and accuracy/precision requirements.
  • Directs engineering and quality personnel in design, manufacture, evaluation and calibration of measurement standards, instruments, and test systems to ensure selection of approved instrumentation.
  • May maintain the calibration and maintenance systems for measuring and test equipment.
  • Advises others on methods of resolving measurement problems.
  • Review inspections performed by other team members.
  • Participate in Quality Planning meetings representing quality supporting new production by applying quality planning requirements prior to production.
  • Develop inspection method for on-going In-Process Inspection with supporting instructions/images as needed.
  • Provide engineering team with information and analysis tools as needed.
  • Be able to effectively operate equipment as required.
