About The Position

The Metrologist Manager will transition BCT’s calibration operations from outsourced services to an in-house ISO/IEC 17025 accredited laboratory. This role will be instrumental in building our calibration capabilities from the ground up, enabling us to meet contractual requirements while reducing costs and improving turnaround times. You will have the unique opportunity to design and build this capability from scratch, establishing world-class measurement systems that support critical space missions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Physics, Engineering, Metrology, or related technical field (required)
  • Minimum 7-10 years of hands-on metrology/calibration experience – preferably in the aerospace, defense, or space industry
  • Background in multiple metrology disciplines (dimensional, electrical, torque, pressure, etc.)
  • Understanding of statistical process control and measurement system validation
  • Exceptional attention to detail and analytical thinking
  • Self-starter who can work independently with minimal direction
  • Ability to influence and collaborate across departments (Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, Procurement)

Nice To Haves

  • Experience building calibration laboratories from the ground up with a proven track record of successfully leading at least one ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation from inception to certification (strongly preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Lead the complete ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation process from initial scope definition through certification
  • Develop the documentation and policies specific to ISO 17025
  • Serve as Technical Manager and/or Management Representative for the calibration laboratory
  • Identify and procure reference standards, calibration equipment, and supporting instrumentation
  • Establish measurement uncertainty budgets specific to space industry tolerances
  • Develop and maintain calibration procedures for equipment supporting satellite and space component manufacturing, including Dimensional metrology (micrometers, calipers, height gauges, CMMs), torque tools, Electrical/electronic test equipment, etc.
  • Specify equipment procurement requirements and justify capital expenditures
  • Perform hands-on calibrations and simple repairs across multiple metrology disciplines
  • Validate measurement processes and equipment to aerospace standards
  • Investigate out-of-tolerance conditions
  • Create measurement traceability documentation
  • Manage calibration technicians
  • Foster culture of measurement excellence and continuous improvement
  • Trouble shooting: Diagnose measurement issues and collaborate with engineers to resolve discrepancies or design new measurement systems
  • Other responsibilities as assigned
