About The Position

Be accountable for developing, maintaining, and optimizing manufacturing planning documentation to ensure aircraft assembly, sub-assemblies, and part components are manufactured in accordance with the type design, airworthiness requirements, and company Quality Management System (QMS). This role owns the translation of engineering design into executable manufacturing plans and instructions. Research and propose engineering changes. Cross-functionally support Production, Quality, Procurement, Supply Chain, and other internal groups with solving relevant technical problems. These positions would be located at our Calgary, Alberta office.

Requirements

  • Degree or diploma in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Manufacturing Engineering or Engineering Technology
  • Equivalent combination of formal education and progressive experience in aerospace and/or manufacturing will be considered (e.g. Aircraft Maintenance Engineer, Structures Technician, Assembler, etc.).
  • 5+ years of progressive hands-on experience in a large component manufacturing environment, preferably in the aerospace industry
  • Previous experience in Manufacturing, Methods Engineering, Planning, or Quality role.
  • Knowledge of the fabrication and assembly of aircraft parts, as well as aerospace engineering and manufacturing principles and techniques.
  • Advanced knowledge in MS Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Intermediate knowledge in engineering drawing interpretation
  • Familiar with one or more Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software
  • Ability to deploy, manage and influence multiple projects, tasks, and priorities at one time.
  • Ability to work effectively either independently or collaboratively on flexible work assignments.
  • Ability to apply sound engineering principles to operational and process design issues.
  • Ability to read and document information using a computer and required software.
  • Ability to communicate well orally and in writing, with good interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Create, revise, and maintain manufacturing work instructions within ERP system to define parts, build sequence, tooling, materials, and special processes required to build or purchase a part/assembly.
  • Create Assembly Workbooks (Production Visual Aids) to define assembly requirements and special instructions covering structural, system and electrical installations on the aircraft.
  • Perform Methods Readiness to prepare all functions for production start of a new build, supporting New Product Introduction (NPI) and production ramp up activities.
  • Define tooling, fixtures, jigs, and special equipment required for manufacturing or assembly of aircraft components.
  • Create and revise supplemental planning documentation to fully define the build sequence of the aircraft assembly and sub-assemblies.
  • Record and submit Engineering Change Requests (CRs) for changes to build, design and tools required to improve efficiency and quality of builds including Make vs Buy decisions.
  • Investigate manufacturing non-conformances and liaise with other functions to perform root cause analysis using structured methodologies (e.g., RCCA, 5-Why, Fishbone).
  • Assist Planning in execution of Non-Conformance Report (NCR) dispositions (e.g. populating discrepancy Shop Order instructions)
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives including internal/external audits
  • Assist Area Managers in developing plans to increase efficiency including acquisition and implementation of new equipment
  • Assist in developing and rolling out technical training materials for manufacturing and assembly personnel to ensure process consistency and QMS compliance.
