About The Position

The City of Lee’s Summit is seeking a Meter Technician to read water meters on assigned routes and record data into hand-held computers for utility billing. This role involves inspecting, maintaining, and replacing water meters, meter wells, and associated equipment. The Meter Technician will also respond to customer service requests and handle complaints. Requirements

  • High School Graduation or equivalent required.
  • Valid state Motor Vehicle Operator’s license and acceptable driving record required.
  • Meter Technician I: One year of experience with field service or equivalent related experience involving customer service.
  • Meter Technician II: One year of experience with meter reading or equivalent related experience involving customer service.
  • Meter Technician II: Possess or obtain a Confined Space Entry Certification within six months of employment.
  • Meter Technician II: Possess or obtain an OSHA 10 Certification within six months of employment.
  • Knowledge of municipal water system operations.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures for confined space.
  • Effective communication and customer service skills.
  • Skilled in the safe operation of motor vehicles.
  • Ability to accurately read and record data from meter dials.
  • Ability to read maps and follow a prescribed route and schedule.
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations accurately.
  • Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, and water pumps.
  • Ability to work independently and follow direction.
  • Ability to operate a meter reading data collection device and customer information system.
