About The Position

Responsible for the installation and maintenance of water meters. The work is typically performed outdoors. The employees are exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, contagious or infectious diseases, irritating chemicals, and occasional cold or inclement weather. The work requires protective devices such as masks, goggles, and gloves.

Requirements

• Must have obtained a High School diploma or an N.C. accredited GED.
• Must have a working knowledge of the water distribution system.
• Must have work experience with meter installation.
• Must be experienced in general water line pipe repair.
• Basic computer skills.
• Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of North Carolina for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
• Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position.
• Working knowledge of the water distribution system.
• Knowledge of billing and customer service procedures and protocols.
• Knowledge of city policies and procedures.
• Knowledge of job-related equipment and tools.
• Skill in analyzing problems and identifying solutions.
• Skill in preparing clear and accurate reports.
• Skill in establishing cooperative and productive working relationships.
• Skill in setting priorities for competing projects.
• Skill in performing mathematical calculations.
• Skill in interpersonal relations.
• Skill in oral and written communication.

Nice To Haves

• Possession of a Class “B” commercial driver’s license, or the ability to obtain one within 6 months of hire

Responsibilities

• Responds to water customer complaints and investigates reported leaks.
• Assist in the installation and maintenance of water meters and services.
• Assist in the compilation and retrieval of billing data.
• Respond to customer service complaints to resolve problems and to enhance public relations.
• Assist other departments and agencies in locating services to facilitate the construction and connection of services
• Repair water meter connections and fittings to ensure continuity of services to customers
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
