About The Position

The Meter Specialist, under the general direction of the Metered Services Supervisor, is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and proper operation of bulk water sales meters and equipment, hydrant meters, and department owned backflow devices. Interacts with customers to resolve service-related complaints, ensure the proper placement and operation of sub-meters, and tests water meters as necessary in accordance with AWWA standards. Performs quality assurance and quality control related tasks and assists in training of Metered Services staff as necessary.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of three years of experience with meter reading, meter testing, meter replacement, and customer service required.
  • Valid state Motor Vehicle Operator’s license and acceptable driving record.
  • Certification from Missouri Department of Natural Resources as Backflow Tester required within six months of employment.
  • Certification of Confined Space Safety and Entry required within six months of employment.
  • Possess or obtain an OSHA 10 certification required within six months of employment.
  • Possess or obtain a valid Missouri DNR DS-I license required within twelve months of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficient knowledge of meters, meter testing equipment, meter installation and related standards.
  • Proficient knowledge of Itron or related meter reading equipment.
  • Proficient knowledge of automated meter reading (AMR) systems.
  • Working knowledge of municipal water system operations.
  • Knowledge of Meter Technician functions.
  • Knowledge of basic plumbing.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures for confined space.
  • Knowledge of backflow regulations, assemblies, hazards, and laws.
  • Skills in working with the public in a polite and effective manner.
  • Ability to troubleshoot water-related problems efficiently.
  • Ability to operate and repair small machinery.
