About The Position

The Meter Reader is an entry level position under the direction of a designated supervisor, performs the reading of residential and commercial electric, gas, and water meters and interfaces with the general public on a daily basis.

Requirements

  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Ability to communicate accurately and courteously with CDE customers and personnel.
  • Ability to understand and promptly and safely carry out oral, visual and written instructions.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work.
  • Willing to assist fellow workers when needed.
  • Possess eyesight correctable to a level needed to read electric meters and perform detailed paperwork.
  • Capable of frequently entering and exiting a vehicle.
  • Capable of working outdoors in all weather conditions, including periods of temperature extremes and poor air quality due to pollen or dust occurring in the CDE service area.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license at time of employment and maintain it active during employment.
  • Must be insurable for vehicle insurance at the time of employment and during employment.
  • Must possess at time of employment or be able to obtain at a time designated by DCE, a valid Red Cross, or equivalent certification of proficiency, in adult, children and infant CPR and First Aid.
  • Willing to work over-time when requested.
  • Willing to work outside of the normal work schedule including weekends, holidays, and overtime as required for the position.
  • Must be able to follow Company safety rules and all other Company policies.

Responsibilities

  • Work meter service orders, inspection electrical installations for hazardous conditions that may exist and report any problems to the proper department.
  • Work termination orders for nonpayment.
  • Procure re-read and unread meter readings for the billing of meter routes.
  • Be courteous, presenting an image of professionalism to the customer.
  • Serve as a communication link between the customer and CDE.
  • Respect the customer’s property.
  • Comply with all applicable safety rules and requirements.
  • Function effectively during adverse or inclement weather conditions.
  • Any other work assigned by a designated supervisor required for the successful performance of work.
  • Maintain assigned vehicle in clean, safe working order by daily inspection and routine care.
  • Do required paperwork in legible fashion.
  • Attend routine training classes and seminars.
  • Willing to learn geography for CDE service area as the area develops and expands.
