About The Position

Install and maintain self-contained electric meters energized up to 240 volts in the shop and on customer premises. This role involves reading meters, installing, removing, changing, and reconnecting meters. It also includes testing single phase, network, and polyphase self-contained meters for proper operation and accuracy, as well as programming meters. The position handles Credit and Collections related orders, investigates irregular usage and energy diversion, and repairs meters, meter sockets, and meter enclosures. Additionally, it involves ordering, receiving, shipping, storing, and inventorying meters and associated equipment. The role also requires investigating self-contained service power quality problems, installing event recorders and neutral testers, and producing reports. Work may be performed from ladders and elevated platforms.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in electrical/electronic technology, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant work experience of four years.
  • Qualified backgrounds include substation, metering, instrumentation, controls, power systems, or electrical maintenance, with demonstrated hands-on experience in testing, troubleshooting, and working with electrical equipment.
  • State Driver License.
  • Must possess and maintain a medical certification card, if determined to be required by law.
  • Must live within 35 mile radius/40 roadway miles of service location.
  • Successfully complete the Company's training and qualification program for this position including: classroom instruction; written examination; job mentoring; and job performance demonstrations within 24 months of employment.
  • Work overtime as needed including extended daily shifts and weekends.
  • Work late shifts as needed.
  • Work independently under semi-direct supervision in a safe-efficient, and productive manner.
  • Proficiently use computers and applications related to this position.
  • Effectively communicate with other employees, customer, and the general public in a courteous and appropriate manner.
  • Comply with all aspects of the AEP Corporate Code of Conduct.
  • Report hazards and abnormal conditions.
  • Attend and participate in training as assigned and assist in the training of other employees.
