About The Position

Install and maintain self-contained electric meters energized up to 240 volts in the shop and on customer premises. This role involves reading meters, installing, removing, changing, disconnecting, and reconnecting meters. It also includes testing single phase, network, and polyphase self-contained meters for proper operation and accuracy, as well as programming meters. Responsibilities extend to performing credit and collections related orders, investigating irregular usage and energy diversion, and repairing meters, meter sockets, and meter enclosures. The position also requires managing the ordering, receiving, shipping, storing, and inventory of meters and associated equipment. Additionally, the role involves investigating self-contained service power quality problems, installing event recorders and neutral testers, and producing reports. Work may be performed from ladders and elevated platforms.

Requirements

Associate degree in electrical/electronic technology, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant work experience of four years.
Qualified backgrounds include substation, metering, instrumentation, controls, power systems, or electrical maintenance, with demonstrated hands-on experience in testing, troubleshooting, and working with electrical equipment.
Examples include roles such as Meter Specialist, Meter Technician, Field Network Technician, or substation field personnel, as well as comparable military or industrial technical training.
State Driver License.
Must possess and maintain a medical certification card, if determined to be required by law.
Must live within 35 mile radius/40 roadway miles of service location.
Proficiently use computers and applications related to this position.
Effectively communicate with other employees, customer, and the general public in a courteous and appropriate manner.
Comply with all aspects of the AEP Corporate Code of Conduct.
Report hazards and abnormal conditions.

Responsibilities

Install and maintain self-contained electric meters energized up to 240 volts in the shop and on customer premises.
Read meters as required for field order and on schedule for cycle billing.
Install, remove, change, disconnect, and reconnect meters.
Test single phase, network, and polyphase self-contained meters for proper operation and accuracy.
Program meters.
Perform Credit and Collections related orders including disconnect and reconnect for non-payment.
Investigate irregular usage.
Investigate energy diversion.
Repair meters, meter sockets, and meter enclosures.
Order, receive, ship, store, and inventory meters and associated equipment.
Investigate self-contained service power quality problems, install event recorders, neutral testers, and produce reports.
Perform work from ladders and elevated platforms.
Work overtime as needed including extended daily shifts and weekends.
Work late shifts as needed.
Work independently under semi-direct supervision in a safe-efficient, and productive manner.
Use computers and applications related to this position.
Communicate with other employees, customers, and the general public in a courteous and appropriate manner.
