About The Position

This position is listed in a range of Meter Electrician C-A. A successful candidate should live within 45 minutes of the Lynchburg Service Center (4001 Mayflower Dr. Lynchburg, VA 24501). The job involves installing and maintaining all types of electric meters energized at any voltage in various locations, including shops, stations, switchyards, generating plants, and customer premises. It also includes installing and maintaining distribution grid control devices and automated metering and distribution grid network infrastructure. The role progresses through classifications of Meter Electrician C, Meter Electrician B, and Meter Electrician A, with increasing responsibilities and skill requirements at each level.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in electrical/electronic technology or equivalent education and experience (military training and technical/technician work experience)
  • State Driver License
  • Must possess and maintain a medical certification card, if determined to be required by law
  • Within 24 months of employment, successfully complete the Company's training and qualification program for Meter Electrician C (classroom instruction; written examination; job mentoring; and job performance demonstrations)
  • Work overtime as needed including extended daily shifts and weekends
  • Work late shifts as needed
  • Work independently under semi-direct supervision in a safe-efficient, and productive manner

  • Associate degree in electrical/electronic technology, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant work experience of four years (for Meter Electrician A)
  • Qualified backgrounds include substation, metering, instrumentation, controls, power systems, or electrical maintenance, with demonstrated hands-on experience in testing, troubleshooting, and working with electrical equipment. Examples include roles such as Meter Specialist, Meter Technician, Field Network Technician, or substation field personnel, as well as comparable military or industrial technical training (for Meter Electrician A)
  • 24 months as a Meter Electrician B (for Meter Electrician A)
  • Successfully complete the Company training and qualification program for Meter Electrician A classification (classroom instruction; written examination; job mentoring; and job performance demonstrations) during the minimum 24-month period in Meter Electrician B classification
  • Work overtime as needed including extended daily shifts and weekends (for Meter Electrician A)
  • Work late shifts as needed (for Meter Electrician A)
  • Work independently under general supervision in a safe, efficient, and productive manner (for Meter Electrician A)

Responsibilities

  • Read meters as required for field order and on schedule for cycle billing
  • Install, remove, change disconnect, and reconnect meters
  • Test single phase, network, and polyphase self-contained meter for proper operation and accuracy
  • Program meters
  • Perform Credit and Collections related order including disconnect and reconnect for non-payment
  • Investigate irregular usage
  • Investigate energy diversion
  • Repair meters, meter sockets, and meter enclosures
  • Order, receive, ship, store, and inventory meter and associated equipment
  • Investigate self-contained service power quality problems, install event recorders, neutral testers, and produce reports
  • Perform work from ladders and elevated platforms
  • Install and maintain transformer rated meters and instrument transformers
  • Install and maintain external data recorders and associated equipment
  • Install and maintain pulse meters, isolation relays, and associated equipment
  • Test self-contained and transformer rated meters for proper operation and accuracy
  • Test instrument transformers for proper operation and accuracy
  • Investigate transformer rated service power quality problems, install event recorders and produce reports
  • Visually inspect distribution system capacitors, regulators, reclosers, Alternate Feed Switches, and Line Voltage Monitors
  • Disconnect and reconnect secondary services at the point of attachment
  • Replace meter sockets and enclosures
  • Install, maintain, and test intra-change, inter-change, and generating plant meters, instrument transformers, and associated equipment
  • Install, maintain, and test satellite, land line, ethernet, and other remote metering and associated equipment
  • Install, maintain and test loss compensated metering and associated equipment
  • Install, maintain, test, and operate distribution system capacitors, regulators, reclosers, Alternate Feed Switches, and Line Voltage Monitors
  • Install and maintain distribution grid control devices and automated metering and distribution grid network infrastructure
  • Disconnect and reconnect secondary and primary services at the pole or transformer and replace primary fuses where applicable
  • Perform a variety of special tests and inspections related to customer bill complaints, inquiries, and energy diversion investigations. Prepare related reports
  • Assist with and perform distribution studies including inspection of distribution equipment, circuits, analysis, and preparing reports.
  • Operate and perform work from aerial lift devices.
  • Develop and provide employee training.
