About The Position

Under direction, maintain meter inventory; install equipment; trouble shoot customer problems; interact with public regarding billing; shut-off meters; program meters; respond to customer concerns; conduct general electric work in the borough; fill in as 1st class lineman when necessary.

Requirements

  • Four (4) years of electrical schooling from a vocational or trade school.
  • Valid PA Driver license.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Elster system for meter reading.
  • Experience with Metercat software for meter programming.
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel for reporting.
  • Experience working with live voltage (120-480 volts).
  • Experience as a 1st class lineman.
  • Experience with fiber optic network design, installation, and splicing.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain meter inventory, including ordering and stocking new meters, meter pans, electrical and mechanical hardware, transformers, and fiber optic equipment.
  • Troubleshoot electrical emergencies, power failures, fires, and other electrical problems and questions.
  • Troubleshoot meter problems and test fiber optic networks.
  • Consult with contractors and electricians regarding equipment needs.
  • Install new meters, test meters for accuracy, and replace problem meters.
  • Read meters through the Elster system using computers.
  • Diagnose meter problems in the shop and field.
  • Check meter seals for theft of power and customer safety.
  • Check outage counts and meter alarms, and report meter sockets needing repair.
  • Program meters using Metercat software.
  • Interact with meter supply salesmen for purchasing and quotes.
  • Compile reports in Microsoft Excel and track inventory.
  • Work with live voltage (120-480 volts).
  • Assist the line department with electrical work and fill in as a 1st class lineman when needed.
  • Address high bill complaints and help customers manage power usage.
  • Create electrician load reports and conduct research for customer properties.
  • Troubleshoot customer complaints via phone, in person, and with businesses.
  • Disconnect and reconnect service, including disconnecting overdue customers.
  • Design, order, install, splice, and delegate tasks for the borough’s fiber optic network maintenance.
