Meter Data Analyst I

Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA)Austin, TX

About The Position

LCRA is seeking a Meter Data Analyst to serve as the quality control bridge between raw electricity usage and the final bill. This role involves acting as a data gatekeeper, investigating patterns, and fixing errors to ensure 100% accuracy before data enters the billing system. The analyst will provide wholesale billing support to ensure data for multi-million dollar invoices is "settlement quality" and monitor systems through the "remote interrogation" of meters to maintain open communication lines. Key responsibilities include troubleshooting technical issues for field crews, coordinating repairs, and acting as a customer service liaison to explain complex data findings to wholesale customers. The ultimate goal is to ensure the substantial flow of power managed by LCRA is accurately tracked, resolved, and clearly explained, contributing to the reliability of Texas's grid data.

Requirements

  • One or more years of experience in data collection, data manipulation, database software, data analysis, or electric utility operations or relevant experience.
  • A degree(s) in applied sciences, electrical power, electronics, engineering, or computer science or relevant field or equivalent experience may be substituted per LCRA guidelines for certain years of experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrate an ability to spot the "needle in a haystack" within large datasets, specifically identifying anomalies or trends in numbers to handle complex graph pattern analysis.
  • Show a history of identifying data errors and investigating root causes—such as distinguishing between hardware glitches and transmission errors—without waiting for supervisor instruction.
  • Stand out by taking complex energy data and explaining it simply to non-technical customers to cultivate the positive and effective relationships LCRA values.
  • Provide examples of extreme precision in past work where your accuracy prevented significant financial or operational mistakes, especially critical in billing where decimal errors cost millions.
  • Display a "sponge-like" demeanor and eagerness to be mentored by senior technicians, highlighting an ability to quickly master specialized utility software.

Responsibilities

  • Meticulously validate and edit meter data to prevent billing errors, ensuring LCRA and its wholesale customers maintain accurate cash flow and trust.
  • Monitor "remote interrogations" and call schedules to provide steady real-time data, allowing LCRA to spot grid issues or equipment failures early.
  • Use data insights to identify potential problems before they intensify, protecting the grid from expensive interruptions.
  • Act as a knowledgeable point of contact for complex data questions, strengthening relationships and positioning LCRA as a reliable service provider.

Benefits

  • Benefits that don't just check boxes, they make life better. From healthcare to wellness to time off, we've got you covered, so you can focus on what matters.
