About The Position

KCRG-TV9, the most watched news source in Eastern Iowa, is seeking a meteorologist to join our First Alert Weather team. First Alert Meteorologists collaborate as a team to develop and present viewer-centered forecasts across multiple platforms, from newscasts to digital, social media, and even an entire show focused on weather. The market gives you a chance to forecast everything from severe storms to blizzards, keeping communities safe and informed.

Requirements

• Degree in atmospheric sciences.
• Strong communication skills, using spoken and written word supported with graphics and video
• Ability to create clear graphics supporting a weather forecast story
• Proficient in posting to digital platforms and managing social media
• Strong organizational and time management skills
• Excellent teamwork skills
• Able to work under tight deadline pressure
• Valid driver's license and clean driving record

Nice To Haves

• Previous experience in a professional TV newsroom preferred

Responsibilities

• Analyze and interpret meteorological data and models to produce an accurate forecast.
• Deliver forecasts engagingly and innovatively for multiple platforms.
• Create engaging social media content around weather.
• Report live during severe weather events.
• Alert and consult newsroom staff on severe weather threats.
• Represent the station at community and station-sponsored public events.
