The Cooperative Institute for Research in the Atmosphere (CIRA) at Colorado State University (CSU) is seeking a Meteorological Satellite Applied Mathematician to work on NASA and NOAA projects. These projects aim to improve estimates of fuel moisture for wildfire potential assessment, enhance fire spread modeling sensitivity to wind speed and fuel moisture, and refine smoke production and transport modeling. The role involves synthesizing satellite and in situ observations using data-driven AI-based and physically-based mathematical models. Research will include developing new models, comparing them with existing ones, and validating results against observations. The position is funded by a US Department of Defense contract and requires onsite presence for collaboration.
