About The Position

Amentum is seeking a Meteorological Data Specialist to support the Space Force Range contract. This role involves performing critical meteorological tasks, including observations, data quality control, and supporting launch operations. The specialist will ensure adherence to established standards and contribute to the maintenance and improvement of meteorological systems.

Requirements

  • AS degree in meteorology/environmental sciences or equivalent weather forecasting experience.
  • One year of weather forecasting experience.
  • One year of manual surface weather observing experience.
  • Experience using basic surface observing instrumentation such as anemometers, thermometers, barometers, and Kestrels.
  • Good understanding of surface and upper air observing procedures.
  • Good understanding of the atmospheric principles that govern surface and upper-air observed phenomena.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work quickly and efficiently in high-stress environments.
  • Ability to work well with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to maintain a positive attitude and be reliable in a very dynamic environment.
  • Ability to interface with all levels of personnel in a diverse, team-orientated environment.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with employees and the public.
  • Possess visual acuity correctable to 20/20.
  • Ability to visually observe clouds.
  • Ability to run short distances during balloon releases.
  • Ability to work outdoors in extreme conditions.
  • The flexibility to work frequent non-duty hours or on weekends to support specific project or mission requirements.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance, which includes U.S. citizenship.
  • Valid U.S. Driver’s License.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working on the Eastern/Western Range or military meteorological systems.
  • Familiarity with GPS-based upper-air equipment and associated data processing.

Responsibilities

  • Perform manual surface weather observations in accordance with current Air Force Manual 15-111 standards and supplement the FMQ-19 automated surface observing system.
  • Operate upper air observing systems to measure upper air parameters of winds, temperature and relative humidity.
  • Perform quality control on all surface and upper-air data products prior to and after data transmission.
  • Assist in the performance of instrumentation system acceptance testing and in the development of maintenance procedures, test procedures, and work instructions.
  • Provide technical direction to other technical personnel as needed.
  • Perform inventories and internal audits on Government Property under Meteorological Systems responsibility.
  • Support launch operations.
  • Assist in conducting Root Cause Analysis on systemic system/equipment problems.
  • Complete assigned training and assist with the training of others to ensure optimal availability of qualified personnel for daily operations, maintenance, and launch support.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
