The Metallurgist will manage and oversee the sand and metallurgical labs. This includes establishing procedures, maintaining equipment calibration, and training personnel. The role involves performing microstructure analysis for data collection, problem resolution, and determining allowable ranges. The Metallurgist will provide technical support for chemistry ranges, inoculation procedures, and temperatures, and collaborate with manufacturing and engineering on defect analysis and process improvements. They will also work with vendors on material selection and alternative methods, maintain records for ISO/IATF16949 compliance, and be involved in raw material procurement. Additionally, the Metallurgist will coordinate customer material certification, verification reporting, and documentation sign-off, provide input for calibration, assess measuring device performance, and review/revise lab procedures. They will supervise sample preparation and cataloging for microanalysis, implement necessary changes, maintain records and archives, participate in advanced quality planning, and work with all departments to improve quality, reduce costs, and develop new markets.
