About The Position

Beehive Industries is searching for a qualified candidate to fill an open position for a Metallurgical Technician, Contractor. This position is intended for a self-driven professional looking to expand their abilities in metallurgical preparation and validation of additively (3D printed) produced metals and aerospace parts.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • A two-year degree (minimum) from an accredited college or technical school with a science/engineering oriented major or equivalent experience preferred
  • 2+ years of laboratory experience from education or industry is a plus
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, as well as with a team, as needed to complete assigned tasks
  • Requires excellent written and verbal communication skills, attention to details, problem solving skills, ability to organize and prioritize tasks and make appropriate decisions
  • Ability to handle multiple duties and meet strict deadlines
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required, as only U.S. Citizens are eligible for a security clearance

Nice To Haves

  • 5+ years of experience in metallographic laboratory equipment and sample preparation
  • Experience with use of optical and scanning electron microscopes
  • Experience with aerospace materials & processes
  • Experience with data acquisitions and analysis
  • Experience with handling of metallic powders
  • Knowledge of safely handling of chemicals

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and process metallic samples for microscopic examination in support of developmental work in additive manufacturing using metallographic techniques.
  • Section, mount, polish, etch, and image parts and materials for examination using standard metallography equipment (e.g. saws, polishing wheels, microscopes)
  • Operate optical and scanning electron microscopes for image analysis of metallic samples
  • Perform various types of metallic powder testing such as size analysis and chemistry
  • Conduct hardness and microhardness testing
  • Collect and document results, and generate reports for analysis
  • Perform lab and equipment maintenance and housekeeping
  • Manage and procure consumables used in the metallographic lab
  • Author and optimize standard operation procedures to promote efficient execution
  • Champion good laboratory practices and safe practices in the metallographic lab
  • Willingness to learn new skills to support other manufacturing areas when needed
  • Maintain a high level of quality and participate in ensuring a safe work environment
  • Adapt to changing priorities and conflicting time demands as directed
  • Provide reliable and timely support for the Material and Process Department
