About The Position

Exponent is seeking a Metallurgical Engineer for its Metallurgical & Corrosion Engineering Practice in Natick, MA. This role involves working within a team to conduct metallurgical, materials, corrosion, and mechanical failure analyses. The position will leverage Exponent's diverse expertise in areas such as polymers, materials chemistry, electrical engineering, and mechanical engineering to address client product challenges. The engineer will be responsible for materials characterization, hands-on failure analysis, engineering and scientific analysis, laboratory testing, field inspections, and communicating findings to clients through various reporting formats.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Metallurgical Engineering or Materials Science and Engineering or related field
  • Familiarity with Mechanical Engineering and/or Corrosion Science/Engineering
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt knowledge to new contexts and work outside of core areas of expertise
  • Ability to work within project teams with a strong desire to contribute proactively to solve difficult problems
  • Specialized knowledge in one of the following areas: Mechanics of materials / fracture mechanics, Welding metallurgy / additive manufacturing, Corrosion science and electrochemistry, and/or Metallographic and fractographic interpretation
  • Knowledge of materials characterization techniques (e.g., SEM, FIB, TEM, EDS, XPS, SIMS, FTIR, acoustic microscopy, X-ray, or interferometry)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Presently legally authorized to work in the US, no immigration sponsorship or visa processing required
