About The Position

Exponent is seeking a Metallurgical Engineer for its Metallurgical & Corrosion Engineering Practice in Chicago, IL. This role involves working as part of a team to conduct metallurgical, materials, and mechanical failure analyses. The position requires hands-on and desktop-based failure analysis, planning and execution of laboratory tests, conducting field inspections, and reviewing technical documentation. Effective communication with colleagues, clients, and staff, as well as generating written work products like presentations and technical reports, are essential. The engineer will also be responsible for presenting results and managing multiple engagements.

Requirements

Ph.D. in Metallurgical Engineering or Materials Science and Engineering or related field
Familiarity with Mechanical Engineering
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to work within project teams with a strong desire to contribute to the team
The ability to travel as-needed
Presently legally authorized to work in the US, no immigration sponsorship or visa processing required

Nice To Haves

Knowledge of mechanical testing, corrosion science, aviation/aerospace, power generation, turbines, and failure analysis
