About The Position

BWX Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: BWXT) is seeking a Met Lab Engineer 2 to provide technical support for lab personnel, lab processes, and lab inspection equipment. This role involves interpreting contract technical requirements, developing and implementing new inspection techniques, and creating technical documentation and metallographic reports for internal and external customers. The engineer will support project teams by communicating technical or production issues, create and revise procedures, and submit quotes for future work. They will also maintain and trend manufacturing/inspection data and serve as a subject matter expert in an assigned area. The position may require qualification as a Met Lab Examiner.

Requirements

  • A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Materials Science, Engineering or Physics is required.
  • A minimum of 2 years experience.
  • Must have basic competency with programming.
  • Must have experience in understanding, reviewing, and executing contract technical requirements.
  • Must demonstrate superior written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Must have experience providing instructions and guidance to hourly workforce.
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented, collaborative environment is required.
  • Must be highly self-motivated and directed with keen attention to detail in order to successfully multi-task.
  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Lower Tier NR product is preferred.
  • Experience in the qualification of new process, product, or equipment preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides technical support for lab personnel, lab processes, and lab inspection equipment.
  • Provides technical documentation/Metallographic reports to internal and external customers.
  • Interprets contract technical requirements and incorporates into area procedures and processes.
  • Supports a project team, communicating status of any technical or production issues.
  • Develops and implements new or improved inspection techniques.
  • Creates and revises procedures, forms, and submittments.
  • Creates and submits quotes for future work scopes.
  • Maintains and trends relevant manufacturing/inspection data and key product attributes.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert in an assigned area of cognizance.
  • May be expected to qualify as a Met Lab Examiner.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
