About The Position

As a Merchant, you will lead Apparel sub-category strategy development and execution for a moderately complex portfolio, driving financial performance and supplier management to meet business objectives. This role requires analyzing market trends, customer behavior, and competitive dynamics to inform pricing, assortment, and promotional decisions. You will collaborate cross-functionally to optimize omni-channel member experiences and guide team performance while supporting operational initiatives. Leveraging data insights and strategic planning, you will ensure alignment with company goals, fostering continuous improvement and delivering value through effective category and supplier management. The Merchant team leads strategy and execution for assigned Apparel subcategories, focusing on assortment planning, supplier collaboration, and financial management. This team drives business growth by analyzing market trends and customer insights to make informed decisions. Merchant will balance product expertise with data-driven approaches to identify opportunities and optimize performance. They foster strong partnerships across functions and suppliers, ensuring alignment with business goals. The team values curiosity, sound judgment, and effective communication, working with urgency and ownership to enhance the member experience and advance the category’s success within Sam's Club dynamic retail environment.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in category strategy development and execution for moderately complex categories.
  • Strong financial management skills, including profit and loss ownership and budget forecasting.
  • Expertise in supplier management, negotiation, and performance tracking.
  • Ability to analyze market trends, customer behavior, and competitive landscape to inform decisions.
  • Demonstrated leadership in team management, including coaching, development, and performance evaluation.
  • Proficiency in assortment planning, pricing strategy, and promotional execution across channels.
  • Skilled in leveraging data analytics and digital tools to drive business insights and improvements.
  • Commitment to operational excellence and delivering customer-centric solutions.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Merchandising, or related field and 3 years’ experience in merchandising, buying, financial planning, operations, or related area OR 5 years’ experience in merchandising, buying, financial planning, operations, or related area.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute sub-category strategies aligned with long-term business objectives and market trends.

  • Oversee assortment planning, pricing decisions, and promotional strategies across store and online channels.

  • Guide and develop team members, setting performance expectations and fostering professional growth.
  • Utilize data analysis tools to generate insights that inform strategic decisions and operational improvements.
