About The Position

Provide direction to the Merchant Services Financial Operations staff and lead operating processes, while maintaining balanced General Ledger (GL) and settlement Demand Deposit Account (DDA) accounts. Closely monitor and participate in the clearing and settlement function as to minimize and mitigate possible risk of loss of dollars clearing through the department. Lead the daily and monthly workflow of the BankCard settlement unit. Provide assistance in BankCard conversions. Provide assistance to the Financial Operations Manager in implementing policy and procedural changes to improve work processes, customer service and compliance with Visa and MasterCard operating rules and regulations. This role is for Merchant Services Financial Operations. It includes the additional job duty of owning the daily reconcilement of merchant settlement and funding activity, including acquirer/processor settlement files, interchange and assessment billing, chargeback and adjustment entries, and the related GL and settlement DDA accounts. Research and clear outstanding items within established aging thresholds.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or business-related field, or equivalent education and related training.
  • 7+ years of experience in a Financial Analyst II role or equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years of experience Payments specific settlement, finance, and or accounting services.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills, with potential to develop strong leadership skills.
  • Excellent analytical skills and problem solving abilities.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in basic computer applications such as Microsoft Office software products.
  • Ability to travel, occasionally overnight.

Nice To Haves

  • Additional education (CPA) or advanced training in Accounting or business-related field.
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Subject matter expert (SME) on essential duties and responsibilities of Financial Analyst I, II.
  • Subject matter expert on financial operations processes and procedures. Lead and coordinate activities in the Clearing and Settlement process. Single point of point for business segment leaders on given scope.
  • Assist operational implementation of special projects and recommend/implement enhancements to improve operating efficiencies. Work closely with managers, leads, and staff to identify the cause/effect of new initiatives. Assist with the conversion of acquired cards into Truist third-party systems (e.g. mapping accounts and booking balances).
  • Develop and maintain a complete working knowledge of Truist third-party operating systems as they relate to clearing and settlement functions.
  • Assist Controller in implementing and maintaining corporate governance framework and ensuring appropriate practices.
  • Organizes, directs and performs complex analyses.
  • May direct or lead project teams or serve as a liaison with external or internal partners. May serve as team lead, training and coordinating the work of junior staff members.
  • Manage projects with cross-functional teams, brief results to management, and implement findings.
  • Solve tier 3 escalations, and reconcilement differences.
  • Visa & MasterCard change agent.
  • Makes decisions on highly complex issues with considerable latitude in judgement interpreting policies and procedures and resolves problems within established guidelines. May act as back up for the Financial Operations Manager.
