About The Position

The Merchant - Salty Snacks (Sam’s Club) leads category strategy and financial management for a moderately complex category, driving pricing, promotion, and supplier negotiations to achieve business objectives. This role requires analyzing market trends, customer behavior, and competitive dynamics to inform decisions across channels. The Merchant collaborates cross-functionally to optimize assortment, inventory, and customer experience while managing a team to deliver results. Leveraging data insights and operational expertise, the position supports continuous improvement and innovation to meet financial targets and enhance overall category performance within Walmart’s retail environment. The Snacks Merchandising team is dedicated to delivering trend-aligned, value-driven assortments that meet evolving member needs. Collaborating closely with suppliers, planning, marketing, and operations, the team drives category growth and enhances the shopping experience. Requirements

  • Proven experience in category strategy development and execution for moderately complex categories.
  • Strong financial management skills, including profit and loss ownership and budget forecasting.
  • Expertise in supplier management, negotiation, and performance tracking.
  • Ability to analyze market trends, customer behavior, and competitive landscape to inform decisions.
  • Demonstrated leadership in team management, including coaching, development, and performance evaluation.
  • Proficiency in leveraging data analytics and digital tools to drive strategic initiatives.
  • Customer-centric mindset with experience in omni-channel strategy and enhancing shopper experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Merchandising, or related field and 3 years’ experience in merchandising, buying, financial planning, operations, or related area OR 5 years’ experience in merchandising, buying, financial planning, operations, or related area.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute category strategies aligned with long-term business plans and market trends.
  • Manage profit and loss responsibilities, including pricing, promotions, and inventory decisions to meet financial targets.
  • Lead supplier negotiations, establish performance metrics, and oversee supplier relationships and execution.
  • Drive customer-centric decisions across channels, optimizing product presentation and shopping experience.
  • Supervise and develop team members, setting performance expectations and fostering engagement.
  • Utilize data analysis to inform strategic initiatives and improve category performance.
  • Support assortment planning, modular layouts, and feature execution across store and online platforms.
