Merchant Assistant - Soybean Meal

About The Position

This position is in Cargill's Ag & Trading enterprise, where they connect producers and users of grains and oilseeds around the globe through origination, trading, processing, and distribution. They also offer a range of farmer services and risk management solutions. The Merchant Assistant II supports the soybean meal team by providing operational, analytical, and administrative support across merchandising and trading activities. This role is a key entry point into Cargill’s commercial organization, offering exposure to commodity markets, customer relationships, freight and risk management. You will work closely with the team to support logistics, pricing, position management, and contract execution while building foundational merchandising skills in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements

  • Minimum of two years of related work experience.
  • Confirmed analytical thinking and problem solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in agriculture, commodities, operations, or a related field.
  • Basic understanding of merchandising concepts such as basis, futures, spreads, or logistics.
  • Proficiency in Excel for reporting and analysis.
  • Exposure to contract management, trading support, or supply chain coordination.

Responsibilities

  • Support day-to-day soybean meal merchandising activities, including truck logistics, pricing sheets, margin (P&L) estimates, and market reporting.
  • Conducts applications and settlement activities for customer transactions.
  • Maintain accurate position tracking and assist with reconciliations to ensure visibility into exposures.
  • Prepare routine reporting on origination, sales activity, and market trends.
  • Analyze inputs such as basis, freight, and customer demand to support pricing and commercial decisions.
  • Partner with supply chain, execution, and logistics teams to coordinate shipments and meet contract commitments.
  • Maintain and build relationships with customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.
  • Handle moderately complex administrative, technical, and customer-related tasks with general supervision.
  • Identify and escalate discrepancies related to contracts, positions, or shipments.
  • Support process improvements across merchandising and trading workflows.
  • Other duties as assigned.
