About The Position

The Belfast Community Co-op is looking for a Merchandising Manager to be part of our leadership team. The ideal candidate is experienced in the nuances of merchandising, skilled in creating attractive displays and product sets using a balance of category management and merchandising principles, and confident in leading a group. The Merchandising Manager is responsible for creating an aesthetically pleasing and intuitive shopping experience that delights the customer while maximizing inventory turn, margin, and suppliers. This position is the primary resource for regional and national trends, and supports the sales departments by offering a robust product selection and merchandising plan throughout the year. The Merchandising Manager is responsible for the successful implementation of all promotional programs at the Co-op. This position works to support both Marketing and Sales Department Managers in maximizing all opportunities, including building displays, seasonal cross-merchandising, and promoting local suppliers, that increase sales and contribute to the Co-op’s global ends. The Merchandising Manager is responsible for monitoring and maintaining promotional signage, keeping financial records related to promotional activities, and reports to the Store Operations Manager.

  • Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division)
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Ability to manage multiple time-sensitive tasks
  • Ability to plan work, meet deadlines and coordinate time sensitive activities across personnel in multiple departments

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with ECRS Catapult, LBMX, SPINS or ability to quickly learn
  • Ability to discuss financial information with a variety of audiences
  • Experience working with spreadsheet programs such as Excel and Google Sheets
  • Natural foods retail experience

Responsibilities

  • Provides oversight and support for NCG-sponsored and internally built promotional programs.
  • Responsible for all aspects of Co-op Deals sales program, including signage, endcaps, and visually appealing displays that promote increased sales.
  • Ensures adherence to other NCG programs and works with Managers and Buyers to maintain compliance
  • Oversees internally developed promotional programs
  • Understands impacts of promotions on the financial goals of each department and supports Buyers in meeting those goals
  • Attends program webinars, conference calls and meetings, as required
  • Acts as the liaison between Marketing and Buyers for the Fresh Picks and New Product Programs
  • Leads all promotional initiatives within the store.
  • Responsible for planning, executing, and maintaining all promotional endcaps
  • Works closely with Marketing, Operations, Sales Managers and Buyers to create seasonally relevant displays
  • Monitors Sales Signs, coupons, and other promotional materials to ensure accuracy
  • Directs staff as needed to build and maintain displays and keep appropriate signage
  • Assists in creating and building promotional programs that increase participation among local producers
  • Participates in planning and execution of holiday and other promotional events
  • Coordinates and participates in passive and active in-store sampling in conjunction with the Marketing Team
  • Works with Sales Department Managers on category management, ensuring the Co-op is keeping up with trends and stocking best-sellers.
  • Uses available reports to gather data regarding products and sales and applied margin, ensuring profitability
  • Works with Department Managers and Buyers to identify opportunities for success, fill gaps, and streamline categories by combining available data with an aesthetically pleasing, intuitive store layout, according to the key principles of merchandising.
  • Maintains awareness of regional and national trends. Is responsive to customer inquiries.
  • Is responsible for promptly incorporating new items physically and digitally upon arrival.
  • Partners with Buyers to conduct product resets and Core Set compliance
  • Participates in analysis of the financial impact of purchasing decisions, including promotions.
  • Researches applied margin and inventory turns to ensure program viability
  • Maintains records of financial impact of promotional programs and makes recommendations
  • Maintains an awareness of Belfast Community Co-op as an entire organization and collaborates with others on how individual changes/operations within a department can affect the rest of the organization
  • Models exceptional customer service to internal & external customers, both in person & via phone.
  • Assists in the creation and development of departmental targets. Leads department in meeting departmental and store-wide goals
  • Maintains working knowledge of reports and metrics
  • Relays information to and from the Leadership Team concerning operations. Ensures use of departmental communication tools to communicate other topics staff need to know in accordance with Belfast Community Co-op’s Communications SOP
  • Ensures the smooth operation of department functions
